Ok so I know there are some of us on here and I know that others are curious. And better still there are those uninformed few that will read this and respond to it for points but they will learn something without meaning to.:)
So here is my question to the Wiccan community. What do you say when someone asks you the question: what is wicca?I usually say it is an earth based, polytheistic religion of self responsibility. We have Gods and Goddesses and we celebrate the turning of the wheel or seasons of the year. We believe that we are responsible for our own actions and in Karma, which means that if we send out negative energy or do negative acts that will return to us 3 fold and if we send out positive energy or do positive actions that will return to us 3 fold.
By then there are usually more questions or they get that odd look on their face like I'm crazy and we move on from there.:)

When people ask me what Wicca is, I usually say that it is an earth based religion. I really don't go into detail unless whoever asked is truly interested, I'm not looking to get into a debate. I am glad, though, that I'm not the only one who gets those odd looks!!!

I would (and have) explained it pretty much as you did BUT I would be sure to add to it the fact that WITCHCRAFT is NOT the same as Wicca (something ppl tend to not realize) so those of us who are Witches rather than Wiccan DO NOT follow the Sabbats, Esbats, or the Rede etc etc etc..
