To Call Or Not To Call... | | I see strays around all the time and as long as they don’t bother me, aren’t near a major road and they look fed and cared for I pretty much let them alone. If they’re sick, hungry, in danger or a danger to anyone else I’ll call the dogcatcher to come and pick them up. I figure they are better off in the pound where at least they are getting meals, medical attention and care. Besides some strays aren’t really strays at all but rather someone’s pet that managed to get out of the yard. A couple weeks ago we had a beagle puppy out by our apartment. I know he belongs to the neighbor ppl in the house beside us and that he gets out once in a while. He doesn’t bother anyone and he’s just rather lively. Well, our apartment manager saw him and before I could tell her who he belonged to she had called the pound and demanded they come pick him up. She doesn’t like dogs by the way. Well, I haven’t seen him in awhile so I don’t know if they picked him up or if the owners are keeping him at home more. I hope he’s ok. Do you call the pound only when necessary? Why do you suppose some ppl don’t like animals? As an owner, would you be upset if someone called in your pet to the pound? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I used to have a neighbor who kept a sweet lab on a chain in their backyard. He never did anything with the dog except feed it. That poor dog was scared of thunder and always got either tangled on his chain or broke off completely and ran around the neighborhood. The owner got some big fines for letting him run loose. Eventually I think the dog ran away and I hope that someone found him and adopted him rather than have the dog put to sleep.

But, a lot of people aren't like that and just want the animals gone. There is a charge to get your lost pet out of the pound, and I personally think that is stupid, only because would they rather I leave my pet there so they can fork out the food and shelter for it? Or would they rather I come and pick my pet up? I do not call the pound. The only thing I did once, is call the office of our apartment building because there was a cat hanging around outside my apartment and kept sneaking into my apartment. I was worried that he was someone's pet and wanted them to be able to figure out who he belonged to. Otherwise, that's all.

Both are collared and tagged, and current on all of their shots, and it would only take a simple phone call for us to come and get them. They are a very lively breed, and difficult to keep confined - they can dig under fences, dash our the door between your legs, and mine have runners that we clip them to, but they work as a team to get unclipped (don't ask me how they manage without thumbs, but it has happened several times). Fortunately, people in this neighborhood all really love animals, and move out here to be able to have plenty of room for pets. All the animals are collared and tagged, all are up to date on the shots. The only things lacking is male dogs not being neutered (are beagles are female, pure-bred, and will be bred later on, so it makes life a headache when they are in heat).

Hope the lil fella is back home where he belongs and not in some small cage all sad and lonely. I don't like calling the pound here cause it usually means death to the animal since they don't treat sick or injured animals, just put them down. Only the healthy animals at the pound get a 2nd chance. Sick ones are put down unless someone comes forward to help them out of their own pocket.I would pissed if my dog or cats were in their own yard and someone called animal control to pick em up. But, if they were loose in someone else's yard or on the road and are bothering ppl, then I wouldn't be pissed. Course, that will never happen since my cats are strictly indoor and my dog is trained to stay in the yard unless he's with one of us.

I have returned animals to their owners a few times. That animal means nothing to the finder but everything to the people who lost it.

A lot of the time, they do belong to someone and have somehow gotten loose.. But the street where I live is like a race trac and I would call if I had found an animal running around this area, since there have been so many animals getting run over on my road.. My cat got killed on this road just after we moved in, (she was always getting out, so matter what I did to keep her in) it broke my heart so see her in the road, we buried her in our back yard with her own little white cross.. But as for my puppy, she is 4 yrs old, dog years, and she has never been out unless she was on here leash.. I would never let her out, but as for others dogs, I wouldn't call on them, unless it was a dangerous dog and I knew it to be dangerous.. We show what kind of people we are when we are taking care of our animals..
