I think Canon is a good brand. I personally own Kodak but that'll change when i upgrade to a dslr camera.
nikon is also a good brand to look at.

Hmm, I dont really know much about Canon models(new ones) first hand but Ive read they are pretty good. I only can tell you about what I know from my experience. The old Canon model A640 or A460 Im not really sure but maybe you've seen it. It takes really good pictures, really sharp and clear especially in print. Its a bit thick and huge though(for me). This was a borrowed cam from a friend by the way. What I do have is the Fuji F40FD. When I was searching for good camera models my first choice was a Canon 440 or 450. A photographer reviewed it and they love it for a point and shoot. Sadly, its nor available here so next option was Fuji F31FD. I wanted it because photographers use it also for their point and shoot funtions. Its a point and shoot but gives the user more options whenever they feel like turning into Manual mode. But then it wasnt available in my area either and so I got the next one to the f31fd. The Fuji F40fd also has the same functions as the f31fd but has lesser manual options and lesser ISO settings. Its good for low light and has a really powerful flash. I really wanted a slim and small cam but the Fuji is a bit bigger than I wanted it. Whenever I see the small Canon models, I feel a bit of tinge of regret but whenever I see my cam again, feel it in my hands and take pictures with it, Im still glad I have it.

Zoom digital cameras are for prosumers. These cameras can be a little more expensive than point and shoot digicams. I have a Kodak EasyShare and an Olympus. Both are prosumers digicams. They come with lots of manual controls and powerful zooms.
However, with the advance of technology, prosumer camera are getting rather popular. With about $250 and more, you can buy a 10mp and 20X zoom digicam.
It all depends on what you really want to do with the cameras.

i suggest you get the Canon PowerShot camera. They are semi-DSLR camera and got the zoom feature. But if you have more budget, u can get canon eos 450D. Alternatively, u can check www.dpreview.com or www.fredmiranda.com for camera review. Both sites review many kind of camera brands. Cheers!!!
