US President 's remark on World Food Crisis

I was just going through the news today and there was this article that caught my attention.. "India being blamed for the world food crisis". US President Bush remarked that increasing prosperity in India had led to better diets, greater demand, and increasing prises, all of which had contributed to the global food crisis.. BUT IS IT TRUE??
Due to their huge population, countries like India and China may appear to consume gigantic amounts of food. but it has also been learned that the real elephant in the room that nobody is willing to talk about is how much each person gets to eat. and the answer may shock many.
Total food grain consumption ( Figures are collated by the US department of Agriculture)- wheat, rice, and all coarse grains like rye, barley etc - by each person in the US is over five times that of an Indian. Each Indian gets to eat about 178kg of grain in a year, Chinese eats about 291kgs of grain in a year, while a US citizen consumes 1046kg of grain per year.
So is Bush right as to blame India and even China for that matter???
