Have you ever been given Amish Friendship Bread?

My neighbor came over this morning and brought me this bag of goo, along with some instructions. It involves a 10 day process of adding ingredients and kneading it, and so on. Then on the tenth day you split up the batter and pass it on to more friends. I guess you keep your section to bake. Has anyone ever done this before? How did it turn out? #:)

It is fun and delicious! Yes, you keep yours and make the bread or whatever. I also keep a part to keep going and I have bread all the time. There is also one called
"Herman Starter". It is a starter that you add ingredients to and then split with friend and you can make breads, coffee cakes, rolls etc. Really cool, if you have the patience and time for it.

I'm very curious to see how it turns out. My son wants to "cook it now!" But I told him there's a process we have to follow, and he gets to check the directions every day for the next step.....and of course he wants to just skip the "do nothing" days to speed it up! #:)

So this goo, has it been with your neighbour for ten days? And before that with someone else for ten days?

Well, it says in the directions to add more stuff to it, then before you bake it, you divide up 4 portions, keep one to bake, and give the other three away. So I guess a little bit from the previous person is in there. But then I get to pass my own goo to three lucky people!! #:)

I will let everyone know how it turns out! Tommorrow is the first day I add more ingredients to it. It still looks like a bag of goo, but it is starting to smell kind of like yeast or something. So I guess its doing something in that bag! #:)
