Should we be required to pay for online dating services?

I have been browsing the internet looking at online dating services such as Yahoo Personals, Match.com, etc. What should be offered as a free service comes with a hefty price. I think these dating sites should be free because why pay for something that has no guarantee?
I would love to get opinions on this-any?

I think the reason many of them require it to be paid is to help weed out people who might have ulterior motives or trying to scam someone.
I do actually have 2 free dating sites on my website if you want to try them - I also reviewed some of the most popular ones:

Let me know if that is helpful at all to you!

I personally do not use these website, but I think the fact that you have to pay for them shows you that the other people on the website are seriously looking for a relationship, while if it was free many people would join, put their friends on for a joke, mess people about, lead them on, stand them up when it comes to actually meeting up. I think safety is in the price.

I always figured they were pay sites because they wanted to be sure their clients were genuine and not just any troll or riff raff looking to cause trouble etc etc..

I think they should be free as well, but I agree with the other post they are probably weeding the people out that are not really serious. But I am sure there are just as many people that are serious about it that either does not want or can not afford to pay the monthly fees. I do know of one that is free and that is plentyoffish.com.
