should social studies and science be changed as an elective?  

I think that those who do not know or understand their history are doomed to repeat the mistakes of our history. And science is important. Maybe we don't all need a complete understanding of chemistry but there are basic sciences that it does help to have an understanding of. It's helpful to know how weather works to avoid the bad stuff or know how to deal with it. It's helpful to have an understanding of biology in order to know what might be wrong when not feeling well.

You may think these are useless subjects but we do use them in everyday life. I think some social studies subjects and some sciences should be electives but everyone should be required to take basic course and have a basic understanding of our past and of how the world we live in works.

Well, Science is important in our lives. In eveyting that we do from time to time and day to day is science...I think it should still be a part of the major subject...Social studies, I think can be an elective.
