I am considering becoming a vegitarian. I dont eat much meat at all right now, maybe a total of about 4 oz a day. Generally it is chicken brest, or salmon on my salad. My question is if I give up meat what could I use to make sure that my body gets the protein that it needs? Also if I continue to eat fish would I still be considered a vegetarian?

Well, there are different types of vegetarians. Lacto..something ones allow eggs and chicken and fish, I think. Strict vegans alllow NO meat. Some allow fish, but not other stuff.
4 oz. of protein is fine. Whatever you choose, do alot of reading up on it first and make sure everything is balanced out right, so you don't end up wiht health problems or a difficiency illnes later, OK?

First of all, if you eat fish you cannot call yourself a vegetarian. How could you when fish is meat? Second of all, to whoever said why give up eating chicken and fish? Well, if you have an ethical stance on the treatment of animals, then there are many reasons. There are also ethical reasons to give up eggs and milk, but that is another (though related) issue. That isn't what you asked, so I will leave it at that. There are so many sources of protein out there! If you do an internet search for "vegetarian protein" or "vegan protein" you will find more than enough information. As long as you are getting enough calories each day, you should have absolutely no problem getting the protein that you need. If you have any questions about vegetarianism, veganism, animal rights, ethical reasons for plant-based diets, the environmental impact of animal agriculture, etc, just ask me. I love to talk about it if you couldn't tell. Good luck and I hope you cut out the meat...

You can get protein from dairy products as I assume you don't want to go further and be vegan (not eating any animal products at all) or from soya.
Technically you wouldn't be a vegetarian if you eat fish but why give up chicken or fish as they are both healthy lean meat.
