your overall plan and how you are taken care of?
I have had an HMO with a PCP for over 10 years. So many people have bad stories about this type of insuance.
I've never had a bad experience, nor have I been deprived of any medical treatment.
Except, I have been limited in PCP's when I live in less-populated areas. One year I had to drive an hour to see my PCP, even though a family practitioner had an office five minutes from my apartment. I wasn't in that region.
I found out some doctors cherry pick their patients, depending on how much the insurance company will pay. Some doctors didn't want to take my case because it was too complicated! Profit driven insurance! How dumb is that?
One time, there was no specialist in my area who would take my case. When I called my insurance company, they found a doctor who lived almost one hour from my house.
But, at least they found a doctor for me!
Maybe I have had some problems with HMOs. I never really thought about it before I started writing this!
What are your experiences? Any thoughts you would like to share? Do you like your PCP?
