Changes taking place in internet

I regularly see advt that soon internet is going to attain web-2 standars, and that consequently lots of changes! I don't understand, am a novice so far as internet is concerned. What are merits and demerits of those changes, who is going to get benefit out of it, etc. i would like to know. Can any of you explain to me my dear friends and users?
