I'm not a weepy person generally, but at the end of this movie, each time I watch it, I'm reaching for the Kleenex. Harry Dean-Stanton is superb in the lead role, and the acting abilities of the then 8-year-old Hunter Carson hold no bounds. Some people find the movie a little too slow, as there's no action in it.....but it's meant to be quiet, laid-back and sensitive. It to me is one of the most finely crafted and well-acted journeys into a story of vulnerability and loss. There are so very many movies which really overdo the "mawkish" emotion when presenting human loss and emotional pain, but this movie does it in a far more convincing way, simply because of its laid-backness and the skill of the actors. In joint no.1 position with "Paris, Texas" for me is "Midnight Cowboy" - a supremely acted and masterfully directed movie, combining the brilliant acting skills of John Voigt and Dustin Hoffman with the second-to-none production skills of John Schlesinger. For me, "Midnight Cowboy" has a bit of everything in it - all put together in a first-class way - it has humour, emotion, sadness, violence, grittiness, passion, light-heartedness, depth, anything you can think of that represents the human spirit. What's your all-time favourite movie?

It has good acting, good filming (sound and picture) and even though it has a bit of a comedy streak, underneath is a serious tone. There is a lot to learn about the race issues etc, and sometimes it makes me wonder how much further we have come today really..

The actors, the acting, the story, the fact that it is true, the hope, the sadness, and the determination. I cry almost the entire way through this movie everytime I watch it. It is just amazing to see what this father will do for his family. It is heartbreaking and spirit-lifting at the same time.

I have seen the film dozens of times and every time I watch i notice new things about it that I may have previously missed. The film has everything and leaves you with a happy feeling at the end of it wen justice is served.

| | | | | 8. Phenomenal1 (76) | 3 months ago | The movie that made me think a lot about life and I believe had a huge impact on how I am as an adult today is "The Breakfast Club." It is my all-time favorite. It showed me exactly what was going on when I was in school, stated the emotions that I believe everyone feels when they are teenagers and how to deal with it. I watched it before I entered high school because I was young when it was released, but I found that I could relate to all five main characters. It taught me that regardless of what may happen in life, no matter the trials, tribulations, or good times, at the end, there are always going to be people judging you, there are always going to be times when we feel the pressure of others opinions and points of views of us, but all of this is all irrelevant. We will be who we are at the end no matter what, and either we find people who are willing to accept us as who we are, or just move on until we do. If we don't, at least we know that who we are, and as long as we accept ourselves, we will eventually find those that are just as accepting.

Life is not a bed of roses, but you can make it one. Also, i love The Pianist, because it opened my eyes to the sufferings of other people in the world, and that everybody has the strength to survive
