edgyk8inmomma (883) | 3 months ago | There are no specifications on time period. I'm supposed to compare development from childhood to adulthod, based on cultural aspects.... This is the assignment: "Psychological anthropology is the study of individuals and their personalities and identities, within particular cultural contexts" (Miller, 2007, p. 168). Identify two different cultures in the world. (ie. Maya, Greek, Arapesh, Mundugumor, Tchambuli, Maasai, Japanese, United States, etc.) Examine their traditions through various life cycles, both male and female. (i.e. infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, senior, Ch. 6). Based on the behaviors, customs, and beliefs of each of the two cultures, discuss how personalities and identities are formed and shaped within the two different cultures? Give two specific examples for each of the selected cultures.

You would need to get access to historical documents, such as letters, etc, though. Might be too hard. I don't know what area you are in or how your libraries are. A Native American tribe might be good as well. A more peaceful tribe might have more documentation, historically, than a warlike tribe. That's all that comes off the top of my head. Too bad they wouldn't let you 'create' a 'fictional' race and do it all from your own imagination. Wouldn't that be fun?

edgyk8inmomma (883) | 3 months ago | That wuld be totally fun. I have a very short time limit, so ease of access to information has to be my top priority. I'm trying to conduct the majority of my reseasrch online, since the next day I have to go to the library is friday. And the paper is due monday. YIKES

3. serendib (725) | 3 months ago | I'd choose the Native Americans and the African Americans. Both from two different cultures but who live in the same land. One had to fight to keep their freedom and their lands and the other had to fight to gain their freedom. It would be an interesting paper. There's so much you could write about. a)About how one culture lost their lands and freedom within their own country and how they survived upto today. b)About the other culture who were taken from their land to a new country and not given their freedom but after getting their freedom and rights what did they do with it. Are they successful now or are they not. Have they contributed to society positively or not.

edgyk8inmomma (883) | 3 months ago | That's a very good idea. I am supposed to write on the development of personalities, how do you think I could approach that with these two cultures??
| |
|
|
serendib (725) | 3 months ago | In the case of the Native Americans, you can write about the qualities their ancestors possessed in terms of how they behaved, were they disciplined in their day to day lives, did they contribute positively to their society and then compare that with the present generation and if they too have the same qualities as their ancestors did and what is their plight today and have they contributed to society in a positive way etc. The same can be done on the African Americans but also include whether the present generations have used the rights the black community got for any benefit to themselves as well as to society.

5. _Honey_ (213) | 3 months ago | two cultures? Hmmm.. I think I would go for the Japanese Culture. the story of ninjas, samurai and Geisha amazes and intrigues me. I also like to learn more about the history of Egypt, its Pharaohs and how amazing the Great Pyramid of Giza was built. I am pretty sure it's worth the research. good luck!

edgyk8inmomma (883) | 3 months ago | I've done a bit of researching on my own of Egyptian culture. My oldest daughter became intreguied with ancient people's, so we spent a whole year looking into Egyptian and other ancient Asian and African cultures. It was a lot of fun. Maybe I'll look some more into that.

| 8. Sillystunt (55) | 4 weeks ago | How about the people of dafar? The suffering of their people and the way of the land & culture are tear jerking and will make the class just go quiet! Africa is a interesting country with soo many different people, religions and regions. I watched a show on Congo and the women of congo, made me cry! Their culture is crazy and interesting.1of 4 women have been brutily rapped, children stolen and enslaved as killers, it's crazy to think how many have been killed or fled for safety. something like 4 million people have been killed a modern genicide.... Learning about it made me a better person, i can tell you that!

edgyk8inmomma (883) | 4 weeks ago | Eek, I don't think I could handle all that quite yet. I am a pretty sensitive person, and I'm sure it would throw me into a fit of depression. Maybe in a future class, once I"ve gone through more of my required psy classes. Thanks for the response tho:)
