I was just watching Naked Science. And they were talking about the planets. The moon has no gravity, my question is if the astronauts where there, and they were jumping around to get from one place to another. Than how was it that the mobil vehicle that they took diding float away. Can someone explain this to me. Just wondering.

Good question. I guess I always thought it was the weight of the machines. But now that I think about it, it makes me want to say DUH to myself for thinking that way. I don't know how they did that.

a couple of people explained it me. the moom does have gravity, but one weight less there, and that is how they get to jump around, but the machines stay put. I always thought that the moom didn't have garvity. I guess I watch too many scifi movies. lol

Well either Naked Science gave you the wrong information or you misunderstand what you viewed. The moon does have gravity. The gravity pull at the surface of the moon is around 17 percent of earth. So the vechicles there are not going to float unless they are pushed to far away from the gravity pull.

The moon does have gravity, it is just much weaker than that of earth. Gravity depends on the mass of the planet. Since the moon is smaller than the earth, it has less "pull" but it still has some. A 150 pound man weighs about 25 pounds on the moon (of course, their space suits probably add several more pounds). Thats why they can jump so high, because their legs are used to pushing much more weight.
The vehicles weigh as much as a small car, that's why they stay earth bound ... er moon bound... when they are bouncing around on the rocks.
