So this tax season wasn't too bad. Usually we tax preparers play multiple roles one being babysitter/entertainer for our clients children. I only had one family that totally wore me out by the time I was done with thier taxes I needed a nap lol. They had three children. Two girls and a boy. The boy was 3 and literally climbing the walls. He was hanging off the divider, on top of the desk, under the desk all the while the poor mother was desperatly trying to get him to calm down while dad just stood there and watched not saying a word. Well the older child about 9 started talking to the baby in the stroller and had taken the baby's pacifier out of her mouth and dad went ballistic on the 9 year old while doing nothing about monkey boy climbing everywhere and touching everything!!! Well the last thing the boy did was manage to fall headfirst in the trash can. Like I said I was exhausted by the time they left and so was my coworkers who were watching the whole thing. Ever have to deal with wild children?

Too funny I can picture the whole thing. I have a mom look that lets me just look at a misbehaving child and let them know I am not happy. I used to have clients that let their kids do anything and it drove me nuts. One look is all it usually took. If that didn't work I would try telling the parent that the child needs to stay away from certain things so they did not get hurt. If that didn't work I found myself getting up and taking the child to a table and chair and letting them color. I always had colors and paper in my desk drawer for such times. It amazes me what parents will let their children do in someone's office. Makes you wonder what happens in their homes.

I could tell that this child's behavior was a 24-7 thing cause his mother looked exhausted and drained. She also mentioned he is always like that. I was worn out after 20 minutes (I went through their taxes as fast as I could go and still be accurate) can't imagine 24 hours with that kid.

Do my own count?? Because I have some wild ones. In fact, my son, 8 years old, decided just tonight, to take a rock and scratch the heck out of my neighbors cars...which I will have to pay for if my insurance doesn't cover it. I was so upset I was ready to ship him off to boarding school of some sort somewhere. My almost 3 year old has gotten an attitude now, and he is kind of like this family's child, climbing and all over everything. In public, though, I keep them tamed down or we just leave. They know they don't get to go places when they behave like that. Plain and simple.

I know that kids tend to act up in public but this family was out of control. The dad let the boy run wild (the boy was literally in constant motion he never stopped). When my daughter was little she knew if she started to fuss, throw a fit, or didn't behave we would go home. I followed this rule when she was a tiny baby also not because I thought as a baby she would understand not to cry but because I feel if a baby is tired, hungry or just uncomfortable then they need to be home instead of in a store or wherever (now naturally if we were at the dr.'s or something like that we would stay).
