But people should have enough self restraint to stop oneself from hitting co players. Of course, Harbhajan was initially under a lot of stress because of his so called 'racist' comments. So banning him entirely would have been too much. So I believe that this punishment is exemplary and sufficient.

2. amitavroy (3128) | 3 months ago | well i think the ban should have been more. i think 6 months would have been a better choice and the only thing which was right is that if he repeats that then he may get a life ban and i think it is quite justified. if you dont behave then you dont deserve to play.

Its a matter of charecter in cricket... today he has escaped and tomorrow some body would do such things and escape with serious punishment. Its a great loss to the game and nobody should be considered greater than the game.

4. kriskhedkar (362) | 3 months ago | yes, i do beleive that harbhajan has got what he has deserved. No matter whether he was invoked to do that or not, because beating/slapping a fellow team mate is aainst the team spiit. if this is not dealt with seriously then cricket will not be a gentleman's game. And yup we need to have some sportsman spirit.

I believe punishments should be such that the punishment becomes an example for other to look at and make up their mind to never do such a thing again. I believe Bhajji got off lightly in this case. The punishment should have been stricter. 5 ODIs are no big deal. Just a matter of missing one series. its similar to being out because of injury. I don't think such light punishment would do any good in bringing back the players focus on the game. Yes but the warning that any further incidence involving him would cause a life ban on him was a very good way of sending the message across the table. I believe the first person who can learn from this incidence, other than Bhajji, would be Sreesanth. if he is an intelligent person he would surely stop his off the game antics and concentrate more on making the ball talk for him rather than his stares and words.
