My oldest Brother has a chocolate lab dog. She’s kept outside in the yard. He just found out the other day that she has had puppies…10 to be exact although 1 died. So now he has to find homes for 9 puppies. I asked him why he didn’t get her fixed sooner and he said that he wanted to breed her with another chocolate lab.
Also my Mom has a cat that has gotten pregnant although she hasn’t had the kittens yet. I kept trying to get her to get the cat fixed but she wouldn’t.
I keep thinking of all the animals that don’t get fixed and all the kittens and puppies that end up in the pound b/c owners don’t want to pay to have their fixed. It breaks my heart to think about it. Our Morgana is fixed so we don’t have to worry even though she’s an indoor cat. My Petey was fixed too.
Are your pets fixed? Isn’t it worth the basic $50 to have them fixed just so you don’t have to try to find them good homes? Does it bother you to know so many puppies and kittens will find themselves in the pound b/c the owners didn’t take responsibility for their pets?

I have two dogs who have not been spayed cause it costs too much here. But they are inside dogs who go out on a leash and I control what they do. It surprises me that so many people are unaware of when their animals go into heat. I know when mine go into heat, April, and Sept. So I know when to be careful. If people want to have outside pets they need to either be on birth control or be fixed. At one time I thought of breeding a dog that I used to have. Then I learned how much work was involved in taking care of the pregnant animal and decided not to do it.

yes,i always fix my cats.i have no plans to breed them, and i'd rather them not spray all over the house.i don't understand people who have litter after litter and just dump them wherever.

I keep thinking I will prepay my son's expense of neutering his cat. She has had three litters in just over four years. He did not want a cat, but his wife (girlfriend at the time) got one "for the kids" and he will no get rid of her, we have always had cats. At our house they were always fixed, because I grew up in what could only be called a kitten factory. It is sad.

We always get our pets fixed. Our newest dog is 16 months old and I can't believe that he is not neutered yet but he is on the waiting list and he will have it done July 2nd. His vet is so busy that is the earliest we could get him in. We could take him to a different vet to have it done but I want him to have his own vet do the procedure.
My avatar is of my spayed, almost 14 year old cat and I will enclose a picture of my 16 month old Italian Greyhound.

I always have my animals spayed or neutered. And I wish it were only $50 here. Our dog is going to be neutered this summer and the cheapest price I can find is $100 plus office visit and lab fees. The vets we usually use charge $250 but we do have a mobile vet with a surgery room in his van that will charge $145 plus the $35 charge to come out here.
There are too many puppies and kittens being put down in shelters simply due to overcrowding. And it is so preventable that it seems a crime.

it does bother me, I have only one cat left and he was fixed at a time when I had the money to do it. Now I have absolutely no money at all and wouldn't be able to pay the 50.00 charge if he was not fixed.

All my pets current and past have all be spayed or neutered. I think only legitimate breeders should be allowed to decide not to spay/neuter their animals. By that I do not mean puppy mill owners these people are the scum of the earth.

Wait a minute-- he had no idea that she was pregnant? That seems odd to me... To not know your dog is pregnant. We have 1 dog now- and she is fixed. She also stays outside--- but we have invisible fencing so she runs all over the 5 acres. I hate to see dogs kept tied up all the time. She also sleeps in the house or in the garage ....
We have 1 cat and she is fixed also- and is an indoor cat as well....
We also have 1 stray cat that has found us--- not sure what we are doing with her yet-- but she is in heat :( so she isn't fixed-- looks like someone dropped her off. It's sad--- so yes to stop the strays and the overpopulation at the pounds and humane society- people should get their animals fixed.

Every cat or dog I have ever had has been fixed. The best time for this to be done is at 6 months of age. However, fixing them at any age is smarter than not. They live longer, healthier lives in general.
Anyone who disagrees should watch Animal Planet's Animal Cops and Animal Precinct shows. It tears my heart to see what these poor animals go through. Breeding is fine, if you have the credentials, money, appropriate space and connections. I had a feral cat that had kittens under a bush in my yard. We fed them, gained their trust and captured them at 6 months of age. I asked my veterinarian for help an she fixed all 3 and gave them rabies shots for an awesome price. I had to keep them in my bedroom for 6 weeks to tame them. I had previousely made arrangements for them to go to ADOPT in Naperville IL. This facility has it's own show where they display animals for adoption and they have a rigorous interview program for possible owners. I did get attached to the little cuties and cried when I gave them up, but I have a townhouse with 2 labradors and 2 cats already.

That makes me incredibly sad. He didn't even know she was pregnant? She probably needed different nutrition while she was gestating, not to mention a safe, dry place to have her pups. Your brother is a NEGLIGENT PET OWNER. and you should not have a companion dog that is kept outside at all times. You should also always spay or neuter your pets so you don't have puppies and kittens that aren't wanted and get dumped at a shelter, or any idiot that will take them from you for free.
We have 7 dogs, one cat. All except one dog is fixed. He is a male, decended from Champion Great Pyrenees and we plan on breeding him when it comes time to retire him from active farm duty, and replace him and his brother with 2 of his off spring. We keep him in a fully fenced pasture that is also hot wired, so he can't get out and no females can get in. SO I don't worry about him creating other puppies. We would only breed him once, in order to have more pasture guardians who are like him, and then we will have him fixed. He is the exception to the rule.
If you can't afford to have your pet fixed, don't have a pet. There are lots of low cost clinics where you can get your animals spayed or neutered safely for a low price.

I have 24 cats, including 4 feral/semiferals. All are fixed.
We also have 2 dogs - fixed.
We found homes for 16 cats last year, the only ones not fixed were too young to be fixed and the appointment to fix them were made when the new owners got them.
I have also been known to grab cats and fix them if I can, so, I'm doing my one small part to fix the pet overpopulation problem.

No we have not..My husband is saying the same thing your brother said, he wants to mate our white shepherd with another and I don't want to..
..And it does bothers me because the guy who is offering his dog is a mix shepherd, but a black/brown and he wants white shepherds..What about the other dogs? Or if she doesn't produce pure white shepherds? Or is another dog gets to her first..I prefer not get her fix and not mess around..

Being an animal love, it is so sad to see the number of abandoned animals.
Being a responsible pet owner is very important. That means having them desexed to prevent another wave of unwanted little fur balls.
At this point in time, my pets are fixed, probably because we don't have any! lol. I think our home has enough noise and mess now, so puppies and kittens galore would really not make me the happiest person in the world.

Where I live it's normal for there to be lots of puppies and kittens. No-one cares. They don't care about their female pets constantly breeding and they don't care about the babies which get knocked on the head or drowned. The people around here will own half a dozen dogs and they are always chained up. They live in amongst their poo, are not let off to run or be taken for a walk and are lucky if they get fed every couple of days.
Yes, it bothers me but there is not much I can do because I have no proof and it's their word against mine. When I ask them they say they are being fed, they do get let off and so on.

I just hate byb which is just what your bro and mom are being they don't want to get their animals fixed. My bro is no different and is always trying to get me to breed one of my male cats with his female. I finally shut his azz up when I was finally able to get him fixed. I will never breed an animal being there are way too many in the world as it is. I bet out of those 9 puppies, only half actually make it to good homes. Rest will either end up in shelters or on the streets. Same with the kittens.

Both of my animals are fixd, my Pekingese and my cat, we rescued the cat from the pound, and he was already fixed, he was os loving when we saw him and held him, wha they forgot to tell us he is the cat from H*ll, but we have so much fun with him.
MY husband is a hunter and he only has lab puppies, true lab puppies are not hard to get rid of at all, they are wonderful dogs for kids and they are smart, I think the chocolate ones are so pretty, but hubby will only have black and only females, the las tone we had had litters 2 years in a row, one had 10 and one had 12, what a mess in the laundry room to keep them warm, my husband believes that once the dog gets pregnant with puppies that are not labs they are ruined. I do not know, as a dog is a dog to me, but we had a neighbor that their lab got preg. by another type of dog and he couldnt' give the puppies away. So I hope he has good luck in finding them a home. I know the neighbor sent at least 7 of them to the pound. We had a cat that had a litter I believe every 6 months, we could not at the time afford to get her fixed, but since then I have found out that there are agencies that will do it for free if your income is low enough. All animals I have found out need to be fixed if you are not breeding them. This was a beautiful cat we got at the pound but they was going to have to kill it if no one took it, that is a shame to go there and see the poor animals that no one would want. One had under the description of what breed it was, YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE, it was so ugly that I know no one was going to take it home, so you know what happen to that one and he was so friendly. If you can you need to have your animals fixed to keeps them from ending up in the pound and having them put to sleep.

Hi Twoey-yes it does upset me very much to see how many dogs especially are unwanted and just put to sleep or given to people who don't look after them properly-people can be so wicked where that is concerned, saying that when my two dogs were pups about 18mnths as they are brother and sister I didn't realise that the sister was in season so her brother mated with her-she 8 puppies and all were fine absolutely gorgeous but when it came to selling them I vetted each owner just to make sure they ould look after and had enough room for one-now though they have both been seen to and that won't happen agin!-littleowl

All of my pets (dog and 3 cats) are fixed. My cats are all indoor cats but, it is just better that they be fixed. Even being indoor cats. Have you ever heard a female can in heat? Seriously...you don't want to hear that once a month for the rest of the cat's life. LOL!
And, have you ever had to clean up after the blood dropping from any animal in heat? My dog is a boy so that wouldn't be a problem but, he is amorous enough without the ability to reproduce. If he were able to reproduce, there wouldn't be a safe leg anywhere...ever...as long as he was around! LOL!
And, I hate to see kittens and puppies, as well as the older animals in pet stores. It saddens me to think of what will happen to them if they just aren't cute, cuddly or perky enough to find a home.
