A quality laptop? |
|
About seven months ago I got my Dell laptop. I have used it most days since then. Yesterday I one of the buttons fell off! I am really upset about this and wonder if other buttons are going to start falling off it. Do you think I can just glue it back on and that 'shift' button will still work? Does your laptop have any missing buttons? Is your laptop in good condition? Thanks.

1. p1kef1sh (2486) | 3 months ago | Isn't it still under warranty? You should send it back and get them to replace the keys. It shouldn't start falling apart in only seven months, no matter how much you use it. I only use Apple computers and have no complaints at all. That said, my daughter's laptop had to have a new screen. But we took that into the Apple Store in Southampton and it was back in a couple of days, repaired free under the guarantee. I should get onto Dell or whoever you bought the laptop from today and raise merry hell with them. Good luck.

maximax8 (3381) | 3 months ago | Yes, I have it still under warranty for the first year. I phoned up Dell and they told me that they will not take my laptop in a repair it. Instead they want me to remove two screws that hold the keyboard. A new keyboard will arrive on Wednesday and then I can fit this myself. Thanks for telling me about what happened with your daughter's laptop. Hopefully my laptop should soon be repaired.

2. choudhary03 (476) | 3 months ago | Hi Maxima, Which model of dell laptop you have. Dell has highly qualified trainers and just ask them for entire keyboard replacement. You can always stick the keys with glue but take care for laptop because its entire system is present underneath your keyboard. Dont over glue it then it becomes a sticky key which gives you lot more trouble than the existing one.

maximax8 (3381) | 3 months ago | It is an Inspiron 1520. Yes, Dell were very helpful when I phoned them today. I have to find the right size screw driver and then I can take out my keyboard. Hopefully when I receive a new keyboard it will be easy to fit. Thanks for the very good advice that you have given.

3. ellie333 (3751) | 3 months ago | Hi Maximmax8, If the laptop is only 7 months old I would take it back as it should be under warranty and get them to replace the whole thing. It is likely if one has broken more will so better to do this now rather than wait and realise warranty has expired. My daughters both have Hewlett Packard and one is a few years old now and we have had no problems at all with those so if I were thinking of getting one myself that is the make I would go for. Good luck. I hope they swap it over for you. Ellie:D

maximax8 (3381) | 3 months ago | Hi Ellie. I don't think that Dell will replace the whole thing but just sent me a new keyboard for it. Yes, I have to act before the warranty expires. I think that your daughter's Hewlett Packard laptops sound really good. Many thanks for your superb response. Maximax.

4. eeyore39 (1136) | 3 months ago | If you send it back to the shop they will just glue it on. They are just pressed on and very seldom does that happen, but like anything else it is possible. Just get some good glue and press it back on where it goes. It should not effect the performance in any way. I have never encountered that with any of my laptops (On my third one). Maybe that was the part they outsourced.:)

|
|
maximax8 (3381) | 3 months ago | I see that you are currently on your third laptop. How long did your first two laptops last? I think that Dell would prefer to give me a new keyboard to fit in my laptop than glue the key that fell off.
| |
|
|
eeyore39 (1136) | 3 months ago | You are probably right. It probably would cost more to send it back than to send you a new keyboard. If they don't ask for it back keep it as a spare and Glue that key back on. My laptops usually last about two years. By then computer technology is old and new one is needed.

5. whyaskq (4198) | 3 months ago | So far, I have been using Dell notebooks and have no problem with the keypad. The keypad should be able to change. It is just a board which can be removed and replaced.

|
maximax8 (3381) | 3 months ago | Yes, I can now see how the keyboard can be removed from my laptop. Then things can be sorted when Dell sends me a replacement.

8. maddysmommy (9774) | 3 months ago | Either call the company where you bought the laptop if it's under warranty and have them fix it. That's what I would do.

maximax8 (3381) | 3 months ago | Yes, I phoned Dell because that is what the shop that sold the laptop suggested to me. I will keep an eye on any other problem with my laptop before the warranty ends. Thanks for your response.

9. nannacroc (1553) | 3 months ago | I have had my laptop for over a year and nothing has gone wrong with it in that time. All the buttons are secure even though my 2 year old grandson has used it for his writing and he can be heavy handed. I don't normally advertise but it is a Hewlett Packard and it is the best laptop I've seen.

maximax8 (3381) | 3 months ago | Your laptop sounds excellent. I guess that your two year old grandsons hits the buttons quite hard with his finger tips.
