Grades email this discussion to a friend?

In somewhat future in schools there won't be grades anymore. "Grading" will be done by describing every pupil on it's own.

What do you think about that? Good or bad? Concequiences? Post your opinions pls!

Good day to you all, Master!

How're they planning to do that?...Analyzing each and every individual will be a daunting task...maybe the class strength will be really small....In any case evaluation through this method will help to find out what best suits the pupil unlike the present days where you're bundled off to do the same thing that the neighbour's kid does!

School complains that grades aren't good for grading since they make teacher's decide on 5 grades. They think that that's too primitive and depends on the person. They'll try to grade everybody by giving them a description of good things of pupils!

Again, it sounds like such a tiresome procedure...means the teacher will have to work real hard to decide on each pupil's qualities.

This is really stupid. How can they even think that a teacher who sees tens of schoolkids every day, can really have the time to see every kid's capacities and grade that kid accordingly?

I dont think its stupid...but sounds like something that would only happen in a Utopian state...know what i mean?...who would go through all that trouble, especially when population is increasing at an alarming rate..

yes sometimes it seems that grades dont actually describe the person very well. and that's only SOMETIMES. and there's no better alternative for this. and how are they actually to implement this new 'grading'? how are they going to 'describe' a pupil and what would be the procedure...?

wont this be a hectic task not only for the teachers but also for the people who r going to hire a person and when they have to go through all this long description about the people instead of just taking a glance at their grades or GPA and short-list people...also there is a big chance of whoever is 'describing' the person to give a wrong description because of misunderstanding or cultural differences.

sorry but i think that there are only cons for this procedure.

btw have u made this all up or did u read this somewhere? i just cant believe this story... very ridiculous

Our public schools have functioned for a very long time in the same manner. It would be nice if more focus was put into improving the system, and improving it in a manner that benefits everyone. Public schools can be seen as having steamed from the industrial age in a basic sense. What they do is pop out products on a 5 point scale (A,B,C,D,F), in pretty specific areas of interest. A more individualized grading, or evaluation system has been shown to increase motivation and success. In the Early 1900's Dr. Montessori took under-privileged, and learning disabled children who had been neglected by public school systems, and by altering teaching style and evaluation, she had these children successfully out-preforming their peers who had been educated by the public school system.

Good question, I think it's a great idea. The limitations are in number of teachers, class sizes and funding...
