no rice shortage?

Philippines

Is it true that there really is no rice shortage in the Philippines? I have asked some dealers and farmers, and they say there really is no shortage. Some people believe that the rice shortage was a hyped up problem to cover up the controversies that the presidential family is in. Is this true? What do you think of this? Are you familiar with the situation? Good day and God bless the PHilippines!

I really don't know. Everyone keeps talking about a rice shortage but I have been to the grocery stores 3 times since the "shortage" was reported and saw a lot of rice on the shelves and no notice of their being a limit on how much to buy.

we went to the big mart type store today and their shelves were loaded with rice. I suspect that perhaps the rice growers want to experience the same boon that the corn growers and oil producers have created.

I am baffled by this because I keep hearing different things. the last time I went to the commissary the shelves for rice were empty but for maybe a half a dozen small bags. with the message given about a shortage. this was all rice, brown - white - parboiled - everything... yet I heard it was only the basamic and jasmine rices that were in short supply. This may have been a created shortage... with the media spreading panic and leaving us with a hoarding mentality and thus the shortage. it is true that in the usa arkansas had the rice crops destroyed twice this year - once by tornadoes and again by flooding... now with the weather trouble in thailand I think there may be a true impact on the supply of those special rices. hmmm, this should not effect wild rice - though, which is not really a rice.

I think the rice shortage is a huge scam. The day after people were reporting places like Sams Club was putting a limit on how much rice you could buy, I happened to go into one of our local Sams club and they were no limiting rice at all. I have been to 2 different grocery stores since the "shortage" was announced and there was a lot of rice on the shelves.

If there is a true shortage, I'm sorry to hear it. We seem to have plenty of rice where we live and nothing has been said about a rice shortage locally. I wonder if someone started a rumor to create a run on rice? That would be very sad.

ngee...i dunno the situation is really difficult and difficult to understand as well. there are different sides to the story. and it seems only one side gets publicized. so i wonder. anyway for several days now, i see people lining up a store in a nearby public market. a few months ago, while people all over the country are complaining, we couldn't feel it in our city. now we see it already. anyway, so much for that. the sale of luxury vehicles are on the rise. so what gives? urk urk.

Im in the Philippines and it's all over our local news about the rice shortage but i don't believe in this. Whenever i go to supermarkets, even just a small store around the corner there is rice available. The problem is, the price has increased significantly and fueled by these news prices are still going up. It's just paranoia or some political tactics... well somebody is definitely benefitting from all these issues.

Yes. I am very familiar in this situation. My family often watch TV Patrol every night. I don't believe that there is such a rice shortage in the Philippines. It is only the president's scheme to divert us from the ZTE-NBN issue.

i believe there are no shortage. these are just a proganda of the administration so people's minds are diverted to other things. if there are shortage.. even the premium rice will be bought.. but they have stocks, as more as what they have been seeling all along. they have succeeded inthis part.. lozada was out of the picture now. right.

Hello, Spoiled311. I haven't heard of the rice shortage in Philippines. I live in Brazil, as my friends in myLot must already know, so I am not used to the international news. However, here in my city, we "are going through" a rice shortage as well. There are still many packages of rice in the market, but the producers and the media is saying that the rice production is lower than the rice demand. Therefore, the problem there in Philippines may be as true as here in Brazil, São Paulo. Respectfully, Munhozmib.
