Ok, with all of the news of the honey bees not doing so well, I don't want to KILL these HONEY BEES. I know the queen bee has to be in the center of all of these bees, so it is a small group.
Being that it is very cold out the size is small with all of them closed in around each other.
So, what would you do with this small swarm of bees?

Call a beekeeper or your local wildlife organization. Somebody will be happy to take them off your hands;)

I did place a call and now I am waiting to see if they show up. I am going to have to PAY $15 to get them removed though. Someone else was to come, but being that they are up in a tree, some don't have a ladder to get them from a little over 10 feet in the air.
Why does everyone have to charge a fee to get something that they are going to profit from?
I wish I had a way to keep them, I LOVE honey, but I also am NOT a professional on caring for them.
I didn't think about a wildlife organization though. I just opened the phone book to look under bees. They didn't have anything under HELP. lol

Smoke should do the trick.Just get a pile of logs under the spot and light them up and move away. That should work.

Never thought of that
. If I get more than I will remember this little tip.
I had a professional come out and take them away. He had a "hive" for them also. I wish I would have been here to see him take them down. He got the queen bee also. I do have a few still around.
With this big thing with honey bees going on, he was glad to get some healthy ones. Did you know that the average life of a regular bee is ONLY 3 weeks! That is why the queen bee lays SO many eggs.

I know that they can be chased away with smoke, but I would follow the first poster's advice and call a professional. It could be a hazardous thing for an amateur to accomplish! And thanks for having some concern for the honeybees! Our environment really needs them.
