I am interested in the history of the Netherlands and how the various groups | | came there. I have a friend who moved out of province (I live in Canada) and she was telling me that her family were descended from Jews who converted to Christianity, and how the local villagers did not trust them at first because they were not sure of them at first. I also have friends who may have Middle Eastern Roots, a friend whose background may have been Italian or French, and I surmise this is because the Dutch did a lot of traveling around and when they married, the children became Dutch like their fathers. So I wonder if anyone here has some very interesting stories as to how other peoples not Dutch to begin with integrated into the nation.

suspenseful (12799) | 5 months ago | Thank you for the information. I already bookmarked the information and will read it more thoroughly. I have many Dutch friends and am amazed that there are so many different dialects and not all of them have green and blue eyes and blond or red hair. I have a friend, for example, who looks like she came from Southern France, another who looks like she might have been born in Lebanon or Arabia, one who is part African yet they were either born in the Netherlands or in Canada.

suspenseful (12799) | 5 months ago | I am interested where people originated, I mean I have a mixture of different European origins in my background, and I can guess how I came about because my father told me that he had both Northern German and Austrian in his ancestry, yet there could have been some Italian because of the expressions he used. So I was wondering if there was a similar history in the Netherlands, whether it was through marriage or fleeing persecution. It is quite interesting.
