Are you giving pocket money or allowance to your elementary kids?

Most parents I know, are giving pocket money to their kids when they go to school for their lunches or snacks. Some parents also don't give pocket money to their kids. They just let them bring food for snacks and lunches. Parents have different reasons why they give money and why they don't. What do you thin is best? Well, your ideas that might help others too.

I do not have kids currently, but I would give them pocket money each week. I would make them work for it though. Which would teach them a vital lesson in life.

I used to give my children the total for all their lunches for the week so they could buy a lunch ticket. That way I didn't have to try to come up with and remember their money every day.

I don't think pocket money should be given to spend at school, i think it should be given for when a child helps out & does helpful things around the house. Then that money can go towards something the children are after. I think perhaps when it comes to school lunches, they should take a healthy packed lunch from home & canteen meals at school should only be an every-so-often thing. My Mum used to send us to school with a packed lunch & we'd have a canteen bought lunch only 1 day a week - it's also much cheaper to do it that way :) My pocket money was only ever given when i did certain chores around the house for the week, then that money i would save up until i had enough to buy something i wanted - like my stereo, CDs, stuff like that!

Well, that allowance is for food.. that;s reasonable.. but other parents are giving money to their kids aside from the food.. that means extra money for anything they want to buy. Which is I think uneccesary..
