Do you like Lima Beans? Or Yams (Sweet Potatoes)? |
| |
| I am just making supper, and wondered what you all thought. I have some lovely little meat pies, pure meat, absolutely delicious, with beef gravy, green beans, and Lima Beans or Sweet Potatoes. I don't know which to make. Do you like either of them? If you had to choose between the two, which would you pick? | | | | | |

| | Ewwww you can have your Lima Bean. I would choose Sweet Potato. I could live on Sweet Potato. I love the yellow skin ones. Cant stand the purple skin ones they have no taste at all. What time is dinner, I don't want to be late. | | | | | | |

| | Should be ready in about a half hour. But I can warm it up in the microwave if you're late. I just love Sweet Potatoes, too. | | | |

| | I'd go for the Sweet Potatoes every time Annie. You know why? Because I have no idea what a Lima Bean is. But they sound interesting, so please share with this poor old pulse starved Brit whose knowledge of beans is largely confined to Broad, Runner, Kidney and Baked. ( Haricot and Black Eyed too). | | | | | | |

| | In the UK a 'butter bean' as they are called there. They are sold dried and can be rehydrated or are sold canned as I bought them here. Does that help any? | | | |

| | I can't upload pics yet or I would give you one. They are kidney shaped, but flatter. I would almost call thema potatoe type of vegetable, because they are so meaty and filling. Sorry, P1ke for being so scattered. Must still be stoned from 420 earlier. | | | |

| | I know what a butter bean is. Good in stews etc. Thank you Annie, I've learned something new tonight. I'd stick with the Sweet Potatoes still. | | | |

| | Limas, aka butter beans, are much better if cooked from a dried state rather than canned. I know it takes longer most of the time up to 2 hours, but the taste is incredibly delicious compared to the can. I add lots of cracked black pepper and instead of salt some chicken bouillon granules. Or better yet cook them in chicken stock. Now this can be canned. I just forgo the salt... It gives the beans amazing flavor. LMAO just my 2 cents here! | | | |

| | Thanks Angel, that was a useful 2 cents worth. I always have chicken stock in (I make my own - such a housewife. LOL). I shall give it a go. | | | |

| | That sounds rather tasty, Angel, thank you for that suggestion. I will try them that way next time. Mmmmmm, pepper is good and I think it can also be somewhat of an aphrodisiac, too. So killing 2 birds with 1 stone. hee hee | | | |

| | Well, it is looking like I may actually make it out your way in July this year. For a few days, too. So, maybe we will get that chance. Who knows, eh? | | | |

| | Well, I just committed to going to Ilderton on July 17th - 19th. How long of a drive is it from there to your place. So I now have to consider sleeping arrangements for that time frame. Maybe I could just throw a mattress in the back of my little S-10 pick up with the cap on and park in your driveway or backyard. That way, when I come back each evening, we can party up a storm. Well, at least I would have someone to socialize with instead of all the stuffies that I will be stuck with all day. It would definitely be a welcome addition to the trip. My first problem is telling the husband I am going. He may not want to come because he would be bored at the event I am going to. But if he knew someone out that way, he would just go and hobknob with them until I was done each day. It will be interesting to see what happens. I may be able to bring my Wiccan girlfriend, but not sure. | | | |

| | Annie, I love them both. but if it were me and it was a crusty meat pie I would not serve either, as limas a re starchy and so are the yams. I think yams then would be a better choice to go with the pie, and green beans.... Yum tho it sll sounds delicious. | | | | | | |

| | Me, too. The meat pies aren't that crusty, though and packed with solid (ground) meat. So thin crust. I almost considered them as a potatoe serving, if you know what I mean. Yeah, starch. And yes, (munch, munch, slurp) burp! Very good it is. | | | |

| | LOL. Please don't be offended, but I opt not to eat dinner at your house. I don't like any of the choices you have given and would almost pay you not to have to eat them. Lima beans? Sweet potatoes? Makes me shudder to think about them. Although, I'm sure you are a wonderful cook, could I please have a taco? | | | | | | |

| | Hate them that much, eh? Well, of course, we'll make you tacos then. No problem. Can't have anyone going hungry here on the farm. Never a shortage of food. Thanks for your opinion, kbourgerie. You are a welcome addition to any discussion. | | | |

| | Sweet potatoes for sure. I love them and eat them every chance that I get. I know what Lima Beans are but I have never tasted one. They do not look like something I would like and if it looks like I won't like it then I don't eat it. | | | | | | |

| | Yep, I really like sweet potatoes, too. But I don't think that many people like to eat Lima Beans. They are more of an addition to a soup or stew, sort of a potatoe starch substitute. But I think they should be high in protein. I don't think they would have been one of my choices as a child, when my acceptance of food was often based as you say, "it doesn't look like something I would like, so I don't eat it". But as I age, I seem more willing to try new or different things. At least once anyway. But I actually enjoyed them as a vegetable side dish with the meal. Thanks for responding LilYorkieBear. Glad to see you. | | | |

| | I love them the way my mom makes them at Thanksgiving, with marshmallows melted on top. Lima beans just never looked appetizing to me. If I find them in a stew or a soup, I am always pulling them out and putting them to the side. All beans are high in protein so Lima Beans are very good for one to eat. I will say this though...I have grown a plant from a Lima Bean. (lol) | | | |
