Feature walls - do you like it or not?

I want to ask you about your opnions about feature walls? It was actually my boyfriend that suggested this discussion, because we have had a very long discussion ourselves about feature walls! I like feature walls. In a small room painting one wall in another colour can make the room look bigger, I feel, and it will also be decorative. You can make a frame around a cupboard etc, which makes it center of the room. A decorative feature wall means you do not have to have posters or paintings instead! My boyfriend on the other hand doesn't like it at all. He thinks it is an "illusion" that the room looks bigger and in his opinion most people are really bad at making feature walls, eg choosing weird colors and making the feature wall not fitting the room or the rest of the house. What do you think? Do you have a feature wall, do you like it? What do you think is a good feature wall and what "mistakes" do people most often do? (Sorry if this is the wrong subject to put this discussion in, but I couldn't find any interests about house decorating etc)
