Does it Cost more to own a House, or to have a Trailer on a Rented Lot?

My mother and I are always wondering if it would be a good idea to sell the house I live in (which she owns and I rent from her) and to buy a trailer and put it on a rented lot (or even to buy a lot if possible). If the utilities would cost less, and there would be less maintenence, repairs, and things to remodel, and also the taxes that get paid for owning a house, would that outweigh the cost of renting a lot? Or do you still pay taxes on trailers, and are the utilities just as much as a house? And are there still alot of things to repair and remodel on a trailer? Have any of you gone from a house to a trailer, or the other way around? Do you know the benefits and disadvantages of both?

I live in a mobile home. I pay lot rent right off the bat which includes what would be my share of the taxes. If you owned a lot you would still have taxes. Things break in mobile homes just like houses. I just had to replace the toilet and some plumbing in my trailer. Utilities aren't too bad at all, but a lot of that depends on how you use them. The big thing with a trailer is you will never have the equity you have with a house. Real estate prices only go up. A trailer loses value as soon as you move in. Other disadvantages are having neighbors right on top of you. There is not much space in a trailer. Most trailers are not made of the same quality of houses. Trailers heat up in the summer like mad. If you live in a park, you are subject to the rules there. Remodeling can be a pain because of the way they are built. Given the choice, I would love a house, but I am stuck here for a while longer.

Thanks for your comment. Those are some things I thought about before. I'm glad you confirmed them for me. I hope you can eventually get a house since that's what you want.

trailer is prob cheaper, no property tax, but in the long run it depends how much you would be paying in rent for the trailer...?
