Why do cats throw up so often?

Mostly, I just feed my cat the Purina Cat Chow, indoors cat food, in the green bag. They seem to like it. Supposedly it has lots of things that help a cat's digestion. I started buying it after my older cat started throwing up a lot. After I got the new food, he stopped getting sick. Now, the kitten is throwing up her food almost daily. Maybe she's sick. She doesn't act like it. Or, maybe the food became wet or contaminated in some way. Do you think it could just be a hair ball? She only throws up in the morning after she eats food for the first time. So, maybe it's a morning thing. It doesn't seem to be affecting her behavior or sleep, so hopefully it's temporary. Has this ever happened to your cat? And, if so, what did it turn out to be? Thanks for your tips.

It's common in cats who are stuck indoors, but outdoor cats don't seem to have the same problems.

That's just because they're not puking where you can see it. ;)

We have 5 cats inside. If one ain't puking the other ones are. It is none stop. I guess it is just hair balls. I say all ours do is puke, poop, and sleep.

your cat could have a dye allergy-one of mine is allergic to the red dye in cat food.i had to switch him to a "natural" cat food that doesn't color it.

I have found that my Shady cat seems to have an allergy to many different brands of cat food, particularly generic brands. And, she'll throw up her food a lot. Purina One, though, is great and she loves it. Her "itchy scratchies" go away, her fur grows back and she is active again. But, she still occasionally throws up. I think it's because she has lost several teeth (she's 22) and can't chew things up all the way, so she swallows them whole - and maybe eats too fast, as well. But, it does happen less often with Purina than with anything else. Purina One is the best with her, but I found that if I stick wtih Purina products in general, she's pretty good with them. I do think she has an allergy with the others. Canned foods I have to use Nine Lives or Friskies. She'll get the allergic reaction with the generics of them as well.

Your cat's stomach may be irritated by the hairs it get's in from washing itself. You vet can prescribe some kitty pills for that ailment. If the other cat isn't getting sick then it's certainly not the food itself or it being contaminated in any way. Considering that cat you got it for in the first reacted well to it means that the puking isn't caused by the same thing the older one had.

Your cat should not be throwing up daily. She could be eating too quickly. I doubt hairballs that frequently. If you think it is hairballs, try giving her hair ball treats and cat grass. If that doesn't help, you need to start rationing the food so that she doesn't eat so quickly. If that doesn't help, she may have a problem with the food.

Our cat will only eat Meow mix. He was eating the wet food and started getting sick and would not eat. A friend of ours gave him some meow mix. He ate it right now. He does get sick once in a while, but will eat no other kind of food. He smells it and backs away. I just wonder if there is something in the food that he knows is not good.

I wish I knew the answer, becasue mine are on the same food, and puke on a regular basis. Mine don't act sick either, so, I'm not too concerned.

Cats often lick to clean their hair. Therefore, the hair will become to a hairy ball in their stomachs. So the cats will eat grass regularly and then throw up those hairy ball. This is their way to stay healthy. I love China

I have two kitties and neither one ot them has thrown up since I have had them even when they had upper respitory infection and they were gagging they didn't throw up maybe you should take the kitty into the vet to make sure something isn't wrong.

I can't offer specific advise. I would worry about your cat because she is a kitten. If I can come up with some extra money, I feel better taking my cats to the vet. Try this website. It deals specifically with kittens throwing up. www.KittenCare.com Happy kittening!

You may want to take the cat to the vet and get it checked for internal parasites like worms, coccidia, and the like. She may just not be used to it, so I'd advise not switching the food, unless it continues and your vet can't find anything unusual. I did have a cat that, as soon as you filled up the bowl, he'd sit down and gorge, then he'd puke. He was a shelter cat, so I'm assuming that it had to do with him not getting food there. I reduced the amount of food that was in his bowl to about 1/4 cup and would refresh it three or four times a day. He eventually got to the point where he wouldn't eat it in a second, but I was never able to free feed him. The cat I currently have pukes every week or two, more now that she's molting. She has terrible hairballs, even when I brush her, so I've been giving her a bit of mineral oil every few days to soften up the hairballs. Yuck! Cats are more disgusting than dogs, I think, sometimes.

It's just in the morning you say? Hmm that is rather odd. Have you noticed if she will bathe herself after she eats then throws up? Because that could be a hairball. Try giving her a hairball remedy of some sort. If it continues, I would call a vet.

I think the kitten is just getting used to the new food . You might wanna give the kitten kitten chow to warm it up to hard food. But if you ask me it sounds like hair balls.
