Ways to sell something and get the asking price.....

I have this hand painted ceramic ring box which apparently is worth about $500. I would like to be able to sell it and get what it is worth.
If you wanted to sell something like that, how would you do it?
How would you make sure that got the amount that you wanted to get (ie., what the item is worth)?

How do you find a good auction place and get them to sell it? Does it cost anything to get them to sell it there?

dont know if this is on the internet but seen it on tv a few years ago was all about auctioning antiques am sure they do charge a fee most do. Dont know where for you to look for one we use to have alot to goto In tenn but none out here
