Do you value the opinion of a critic?

I noticed that on some movies, when some big critics bash a movie ahead of time, and even after seeing it, it can majorly effect the the movies gross earnings. So i've decided to make this discussion! How much do you value the opinion of a critic? I do read up and get an idea of what the movie is going to be about from critics but I don't base my decision on if I want to see it or not solely based on the critics responses, I have to see it for myself in order to truely make a judgement! What about you, do you value the opinion of a critic, or are you like me and like to make your own decisions?

No, I don't put much stock in what critics have to say. I have liked some movies that got dismal reviews and disliked some movies that got great reviews. I usually don't read reviews ahead of time because of this. I would rather go in with an open mind.

Sometimes I read comments about new movies. I like to be informed of how's the movie going especially if i'm going to watch it. Sometimes i do read because I blog it. There times that i go for the comments and not watch it instead or just borrow a DVD copy instead of paying few bucks for the big screen. Well that if the comments turned out bad.
