I've always heard that as a general guideline, you should start working with a little boy when he's around 2-2.5 and a little girl, when she's around 1.5-2, but of course that's just a general guideline. Also that's the guideline for when to START. Some kids pick it up within a few days, and others take months.
My little boy was really easy for me to daytime potty train. He was one of those kids, that once he understood that he got rewarded for peeing in the potty, he peed in the potty all the time. It took less than a week to get him pee trained, and about a month before he could consistently poop in the potty every time. Well, I say he was completely trained then, but he would still have about 1-2 accidents a week, and he still needs diapers at night and at nap time. He turned 2 in February. He was day time potty trained by Thanksgiving, so probably when he was about 21 months old or so.
We gave him M&Ms when he pottied in the big boy potty. We also made it into a HUGE deal each time. We got a sticker chart and gave him a sticker each time, and once he got enough stickers, he got a new toy.

| | 4. dragoncatcher420247 (213) | 2 years ago | my son potty trained at 3, it was pretty hard, he never did the pull up thing, only underware, we went through 6-7 pants a day, and it really helped him at daycare to see the other kids go potty. We gave him stickers everytime, that helped too, and about a week later he did it. we still give him stickers, and ask him all the time, but we have few accidents. Girls are suppose to train faster and earlier, my little girls 2 and she loves to sit on the potty and flush it, but she hasnt gone yet. But we sit her 3 or 4 times a day to make her unfamiliar. Good luck also if you have a boy, you can put fruit loops in the toilet:)
