Ticks drive me buggy!

I am an avid gardener. I love to be outdoors. But I despise those little nasties called Ticks! My pets are protected by Frontline Plus, but there is nothing like that for humans. *pout* We are in an area with a lot of deer, and I'm scared to death of deer ticks and lyme disease. I had a scare once where the tick's head stayed under my skin when it was pulled off. I went to my doctor who pulled it out and gave me a treatment of antibiotics, just in case. Anyone else have the same feelings about ticks? Do you know of an effective way to control them?

mental_ I just had a tick incident. I don't know where I picked it up, maybe in Georgia of somewhere along the way back home to NY. We got in Friday night and Sunday morning taking a shower I looked down and saw this brown thing. I can't see without my contacts in and I couldn't get out of that shower fast enough. I never expected to see a tick on my body! (in a comprimising spot I might add.) I'd pulled ticks out of my cats, so I had no problem getting it out of my skin. But then I developed a rash and one of my lymph nodes started swelling. I went to the doctor and she said there were no reported cases of Lyme Disease, but I had all the symptoms and she treated me for it. No big deal. I bought two antibiotic pills and swallowed both at the same time, and that was the cure! That's it. The swelling went down and I'm fine.

Wow! Talk about coincidence! I'm the same way without my glasses, so I always give myself the once-over before getting into the shower now. Yep, that's the cure all right. I got the same treatment when the tick's head stayed under my skin. I'm just glad my tick was on my shoulder and nowhere, umm, compromising! I'm sure glad to hear that you're fine! Scary thing, though. I try to not freak whenever I see one, especially when it's on me, because I know how easy the cure is for lyme disease. But I do. Thanks for sharing your story! Take care.

I am from the country and I have had ticks. In my experience, they either like you or they don't. The only thing I know to do is have someone do a body check when you come in from outdoor, every single time.

Same here. Ticks definitely DO like me! I spray DEET products on my clothes when I go out and my pets are protected with Frontline Plus, but ticks always seem to get in the house somehow, and they always seem to find me. :(

I dont know..I do know that brewers yeast works for fleas and ticks on dogs, just a sprinkle a day on the food keeps the ticks away. I have not tried it yet on my self because they dont like me but they do like my husband I always have to check him daily during the summer. I hate them I am a dog groomer and pull at least 50 to 80 ticks a day the one cool thing that i found is that if you put them in a cup of bleach and leave them over night they disolve into nothing.

Wow! That's awesome! I'm going to have to try that just to see it happen. Maybe I'll try some brewer's yeast. It'll be worth it if it works! The reason I had to post this today was because I found a tick crawling on me last night while I was in bed. I also found another crawling on me today when trying to take a nap. I don't get it. My dogs are protected (and they don't even go out in the grass... they're Maltese and only go out on our deck when outside), but I seem to find more ticks on me when I'm in bed... just crawling for the most part. Maybe they get in the dogs' hair, don't like the smell, and drop off... onto me! Thanks for your reply.
