How old is your Black Lab?

My black labrador lived to almost 17 years of age. He was a real character, possibly one of the best dogs I've ever known.

I don't actually have a black lab Tiedyemom, but everyone I have ever seen has been very, very smart and a wonderful pet/companion. I honestly haven't heard anything bad at all about them either. Sounds like yours is a wonderful part of your family. I do have a bulldog that I feel the same way about, though I admit that she isn't as smart as your Lab I am sure. She is our Super Model though...LOL.

I'm not sure how old ours is, he was a stray that checked us out and then worked his magic on working his way into the family. Where we live in the country on our road unfortunatly people just dump their dogs; that's where most people on our road got our dogs. We took him in and I would say he was a puppy maybe a year old. I took him to the vet and he said he was an old dog because his teeth were worn (hello, he was living in the woods probably eating rocks and tree bark to survive) We found out he had full blown heartworm, we paid about $1,000. to fix him, he almost died twice in the procedure. He's better but the heart was so enlarged it presses against the lungs; the vet told me even though the worms are gone the heart will not shrink and he will have breathing problems and there's nothing they can do for that. I would say he is 2 years old now. I got the dog because my neighbor just lost her black lab after 16 years and couldn't bear having another one so close after the death.
