Relative to my plan of working in Singapore, I've learned from the internet that a foreigner could apply for a permanent resident status once he or she reaches six months in Singapore. What are the benefits of being a permanent resident there? Could I bring my family over there? Up to what extent of consanguinity or affinity? I'm in the process of making a timetable of my schedule for going there. Please help.

Knowing my Government, the basic requirement to becoming a PR in Singapore is to be suitably qualified or skilled, on Employment pass or Social Visit Pass. Approval of application of PR is based on the applicant's qualifications, expertise, local employment and individual merit. New applicants would be assessed on talents, skills and experience and not just on academic qualifications. Another factor to consider whether the immigrant's family members can also contribute to Singapore's growth and how well the immigrant and his family can fit into Singapore society. Foreign students on scholarship might be persuaded to get their families to settle in Singapore. The target group of new immigrants will be mainly younger people. I hope this information will help.

I just saw your post in my thread. It really depends on your qualifications. Most Filipinos here work as household helper or nurse. Of course, if you are more highly qualified, you can try to get a job in the finance sector. Maybe you can get in touch with the Singapore Embassy in the Philippines and see what advice they give you. They should be able to give you more appropriate advices.

Thanks for the advice. I really needed this right now. Personally, I'm an Accountancy graduate and I've been working in the Controllership/Accounting Department for about ten years now. I really do hope I could get a better-paying job over there as times are tough and if I may divulge, I only have approximately five hundred Singaporean dollars as gross pay every month. With only me working for the family, it's always a challenge to make ends meet. Again, thanks so much.

I also have an Accountancy degree. But I'm currently not pursuing this field. If your Accountancy degree is considered ACCA equivalent, then you should have no problem at all finding an audit/tax/accounting job in Singapore.

nice plan... here's the advantages of being a PR in singapopre ... Advantages of being a PR 1. You will be able to borrow 80 per cent of your housing loan from a bank if you are thinking of buying property in Singapore 2. Your employer will be required to contribute to CPF which is currently 16 per cent of your gross income after your second year and is non-taxable. Your own contributions to CPF are also non-taxable. 3. You can change jobs without having to apply for a new employment pass. As a SPR, you are not required to have one to work here. If you should lose your job you have more time to find one. 4. You can apply for a long term visit pass for your parents to stay with you in Singapore. or you may want to visit the link below and check the other information regarding the other benefits of PR in singapore ., Ü http://www.expatsingapore.com/content/view/1575/ hope that will help you a lot... have a nice day ahead!!! see you around!!! myliezl0903 manila, philippines

I admit that this is one of the perks of being in mylot - having a helpful mylot community. Thank you so much for the itemized benefits. I'll be checking the site you included in your post. Currently and just for info, retrenchment in the company I'm working with hasn't started yet; but the top management have given a deadline for the bank until December of this year. Thanks again.
