Health Insurance Companies are not my favorite people right now!

Finally, (hopefully) my husband is graduating and getting out of school. The upshot of that is that we will no longer be covered under the school's health insurance. It is also probable that my husband's new job will not provide us insurance because it is a starter company. Currently, I work part time teaching college and don't get any benefits either. I have been trying to get us insurance just to be denied buy three different companies -all due to my build which is a nice way of saying I am too fat to insure. All three companies selected some other random item from my health history, but I know the main reason for my denial is because of my weight. I don't have any other health problems. I just got my blood panel back and everything was normal and I haven't ever been to the hospital for anything. Do you think this is fair? I don't. Someone should do something about the state of health insurance in this country. Anyone else got health insurance stories to share?

That is horrible that you can't get insurance, especially considering you are otherwise healthy, and don't happen to fit in a very small weight range as dictated by charts that were made in the days of the dinosaurs...(ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a little.. haha) but seriously, this is discrimination and wrong! The bottom line is greed on the part of the insurance companies. Odd thing is, I have known very skinny people who had more health problems and were hospitalized and or went to the doctors more than someone considered overweight. It's just wrong. I think there should be *affordable* insurance out there for everyone, regardless of weight, geez.. even overpriced would be better than none! I can related kind of, I haven't had health insurance since I was 16, when my mom had to leave her job because of disability; so her work insurance went also. Even before that, most of my doctors visits were related to strep throat and ear infections! And that wasn't that often. In the past 9 years I've maybe been to the doctors 5 times or so, we paid out of pocket. The only major thing I've had was a broken ankle (my first ever!), and that was me not watching where I was walking and fell of the sidewalk and snap went my ankle.(Now I can sort of laugh about that one..LOL) Anyway, point is, I am terrified of trying to get health insurance because of this very issue of weight. What I want to know is, how they would feel if I starved myself down to an "acceptable" weight so they would accept me, would I be healthy? Probably not so much, but I would fit their dumb little chart. Not that I plan to do that, I do have eating and weight issues, but they are certainly not related to insurance companies. LOL Anyway, sorry for that rant, it's just this kind of thing makes me so angry. Good luck and I hope you can find some insurance, it is not fun having to pay medical bills without it, my mom has medicare and she still has crazy medical bills each month, though not as much as without medicare.

That's absolutely discriminitive...how unfair to deny someone due to their weight.
