I think that it would only depend on the make of it and possibly the years it's been owned. Also the frequency of using each individual part. The DVD/VCR combo in the den of our house is working okay... the VCR part seems to be in great working order but the DVD part is riding rough.

thank you for your answer. is your vcr/dvd a recorder or is it a vcr and no dvd recorder.

You know, i'm sorry for some reason I overlooked the "recorder" part. It's not, but I've had friends who have had one and it doesn't seem as if they have much problems with it. Sometimes it's just as easy as getting a dvd cleaner (a dvd or c.d. that goes into the disc drive) and cleaning it that way. I hope you make a great purchase with your DVD/VCR Recorder. I would suggest going with the top brands anyway, as they are the best and usually come with a great warranty. Good Luck in your purchasing. Have a Great Day and Happy Mylotting to you!
