My computer hasn't been working very well for the last few days.

It all started just a few days ago. I just wanted to do a summer-cleaning in my chasis and opened it. Then I used vacuum to take out some dirt.

After making some cleanings very carefully, I re-assembled the chasis and pressed power-on. Then.. nothing..
The fans didn't work, no any sound from the pc but only the power led on.

After that, I just went to a computer service to learn what the wrong thing is. They said my motherboard is dead. They sold me a secondhand one for a high price. Then they said my power is also dead. (While their motherboard was working with my pc it suddenly went out and the situation was just like the beginning) and as a result they told me that my power supply is faulty and causes death of motherboards. So, they sold me a power supp and then everything was looking fine.

When I got home I found out that my pc freezes alot. Especially whenever I run a game, or WHENEVER I click "Test Direct 3d" in dxdiag it freezes immediately. I tried making a clean install of windows xp but even that was so hard due to lock ups during the installation and even the copying process which takes place first.

Now, I wonder what might have gone with my pc... Do you think my video card is also gone because of them? Or is it only their motherboard? It doesn't only lockup when I open a game but also in some other cases...

Do you have any suggestion for me?

Thank you already.

dont you has ask the computer technician what the problem is, they should give you a detail about it, how can doing some cleaning will harm you motherboard, if something missing or you wire has been not connected properly but it still at the right place that not will harm you computer, if the process of installation of new windows too slow it mean there is something wrong with the hard disk, you better check for it.

hey mulau2u!

Thank you very much for your answer.

I had wired the stuff correctly of course, however the computer still didn't work and it wouldn't. At technical service they also tried many stuff to get it working again but nothing.. Then they changed some parts as I mentioned.

However, the situation is not with the hard disk because the installation goes smooth if we don't take the freezing into account.

When installing windows it does everything fast and good but when finalizing it the computer freezes and I have to restart. Then It beginds and does everything again and it goes like a chain.

Somehow I managed to install windows on the computer the lockups still didn't disapper. When I check the direct3d tests it instantly locks up (I installed propoer motherboard drivers) it also locks up while installing service pack and if I install the latest graphics card drivers the computer woN't start at all...

It is getting really annoying to me, I just can't wait to get my pc working again :(

I don't think its your video, since your old mobo was fried maybe your ram or cpu was affected. I think it would be better if you bring back the mobo where you bought it, I'm sure even if it's 2nd hand it has warranty. if some how your ram is also done, it would be better to replace the three mobo+RAM+cpu this will be also be a lot cheaper in the long run.

Hi Buddy If your computer is freezing up after the mobo replacement there can be three things

1. Check your hard drive(try to swap the hard drive with ur friends computer to see if the issue is with the hdd)

2. what i strongly believe is that the mobo that is installed in the computer is bad as it would be a secondhand mobo try to get that replaced

3. the fan of the system the cpu cooling fan assembly is not working properly and is not cooling down the CPU

Instead of getting these three parts replaced or investing too much on this one try to sell this one off and get a new one as computer nowadays are real cheap
