Winds and Rain and Sandbags, Oh My!

Well the past week has been a literal whirlwind. Our newly leafed trees are denuded again from the high winds and lashing rain/hail we've had. The village well finally overflowed and it was a mad scramble to sandbag the surrounding streets to keep the water from basements. Our streets are all dirt and gravel and turn into rivers at the slightest hint of more than an inch of rain. So far this week we've had nearly 14 inches of the stuff! The farmers had to leave off their seeding and come to town to stack sandbags, and of course Mad Meg was flitting through the thick of it keeping us all entertained, but scaring the hell out of us too every time she got blown down into the water! A Stephen King movie is being made a few miles outside of town and they've blocked the roads - all two of them, that lead to our small hamlet. So the farmers had to put up at the local hall for two nights before they could go home again. Good thing too, as it kept them on site and working! Lazy buggers! LOL I spent yesterday morning watching the ducks float down the center of my street and the crows dive bombing them. The robins are fighting over nesting rights and the doves refuse to leave the willows. Their constant cooing was nice at first, but it's getting on my last nerve now! lol Well the sun is trying to break through now, so it's time to put the wellies back on and take a walking tour of the town to see what else needs to be done.
