family or friends?

You have to decide which is more important.

If the family occasion is something special, like a birthday, and your plans with your friends were simply to go to the beach or something like that, I'd say go with your family. Birthdays are once a year, beaches are always there. Your friends should understand or they are not very good friends if they don't.

But if the family occasion was just an informal dinner or something, I'd stick with your plans with your friends and explain to your family that you had already made these plans earlier.

It all depends on the criticality of the situation,but if one has the same importance of condition both side then yes i would recommend to go toward family.u can have many friends but can't have many family.
