Are You Attached To People Who Don't Know You Exsist?? |
| |
| Do you get upset when your favorite celebrity or athlete get injured or even dies?? How much does this bother you? Do we, as normal people, feel emotionally attahced to these people who live their lives in the spotlight? I like to watch E Entertainment on TV and read "People" magazines to keep up with those types of people I could never be. Why are their lives so interesting to us? Did you cry when John Denver, John F.Kennedy Jr, Aliyah, Roberto Clemente, to name a few; were killed in plane crashes? If one of "them" are diagnosed with cancer or admitted to the hospital, do you wish you could visit them or send a card? Were you angry with Marian Jones for admitting she did steroids? Just how much do you feel you are attached to the celebrities or athletes? They are human, just like the rest of us. Tell me what you think. | | | | | |

| | Hi bevvy22! There are celebrity tragedies that have affected me quite a bit. I was really sad when John Ritter died. I had always loved him and thought it was such a tragedy. Same with Heath Ledger. I was also pretty upset when both Princess Diana and JFK Jr. died, and with him I don't even know why because I didn't pay a bit of attention to him when he was alive. Maybe it was the Kennedy curse thing. I think a lot of it has to do with what happens to them and why. I remember when I was young, I fell asleep with the radio on and was woken up to a news story about the death of an actress named Dominique Dunne. She was one of the stars of Poltergeist. I was half asleep, so I wasn't really sure it was not a dream until I heard about it again, later, but I guess her ex-boyfriend killed her. Just the way I heard it and the way she died made it, I think, have more of an impact on me than it might have otherwise. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, dfn12968, I agree with John Ritter. I watched him a lot on Three's Company and he realy was a great actor in movies as well. He was much too young. But Princess Di, really affected me. I did a lot of research on her for my college thesis (term) paper. She was truly a remarkable young lady. What really bothers me are the ones who overdose or commit suicide in some way. I can't imagine living in a fish bowl like they do. I'm sure there is a lot of depression and feelings of not knowing who you can trust. These incidences are truly tragic for anyone, not just the celebs. Thanks so much for you input. | | | |

| | Diana's death was devastating. I remember watching her wedding on television. I was 13, I guess? I thought she was the most beautiful bride. I even remember her saying his names wrong during the ceremony and that gorgeous blue sapphire ring. I heard about her death also when I was half asleep. I thought it really was a dream, because the tv said it happened at 9am but when I heard about it, it was only midnight. Since it happened in France and I was in Seattle, that made sense once I woke up. Anytime a life is taken too young, it's a tragedy, but even more so when it's brought on by so much pressure to live up to standards and expectations that the media and society must put on celebrities. I think about River Phoenix, Karen Carpenter, Chris Farley. Some will say it's the life they chose and they should learn how to handle it. I don't necessarily agree with that. | | | |

| | I don't really feel like I'm that attached to people like that, but I do still feel bad when there are tragedies, even when I don't personally know the people involved. If a really good actress or actor dies, I always think it's really sad. I guess that's really as far as my attachment goes to them. I am saddened when bad things happen to them, but I don't really worry much about their personal lives otherwise, like the way some people get really into it. | | | | | | |

| | I agree elisa812 with you. Some people really do get into it. It makes me sad too for the loved ones left behind, but it goes no further than that. Thanks for the response. | | | |

| | I am not really attached to the point that it really bothers me in any way like someone I know personally. I think any tragedy is sad of course. I do admit that like most people I tend to watch celebrity news somewhat, but I don't make it a point to follow any certain ones. I do admit also that I did cry when Thurman Munson died. He was a catcher for the New York Yankees that was killed in a plane crash when I was 13. He was also my favorite player. | | | | | | |

| | Yes buldwgz, it is sad to hear of such tragedies. But I think everyone has at least one favorite celebrity they may have cried over upon hearing of their death or injury. Thank you again for your response. | | | |

| | I sometimes do watch show biz tonight (if i can't find anything else)Mostly it just shows me that mega-rich people make rotten parents and mega rich young people make stupid decision that they can get away with. I do hate3 to hear that the older actors that i grew up watching have passed away. | | | | | | |

| | i am not really attached to anyone who don't know i exist... i mean, i have admirations for great artists, etc. but when something happens to them, to their lives i dont get affected too much. Though i will feel a bit lonely for a bad news, i dont cry for it like others would.. of course some news will be shocking to me but i'll be able to manage that. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for the comment chiyosan. Some deaths/injuries are shocking, but there's no need for drama. Now if there's a death/tragedy like Virginia Tech massacre; I boo hooed like a baby. I am originally from that area in Virginia. I did drive from south Georgia to place flowers on the memorial. That is very different. | | | |

| | No, I could care less about celebrities personal lives. Just shut up and entertain me. But seriously its sad when anyone dies or has troubles, but I don't like to be privy to entertainer's personal lives. that's why I would never, ever want to be world famous. You can't eat a french fry wthout having the media in your frakking face. | | | | | | |

| | Hello Iconoclast1. I guess it would stink to be a celebrity with no privacy and all. Thanks for your insight. | | | |

| | Its always sad to lose someone in the public eye, someone you have followed through there career of whatever it might have been. People have a connection to them because they can relate in some way, realistically or not. Its sad to lose someone always, but there is a time were we should let them rest in peace like everyone else, keep them in rememberence but nothing else should be made of it. | | | | | | |

| | I don't think I am so attached that I would go into emotional breakdown if something were to happen to someone famous. Though it does anger me somewhat when those that are role models for so many of the worlds youth do things that are unbecoming of a role model.. I know that they are human, and most likely they didn't ask to be anyones role model, they did choose a role in life which has a fanbase. | | | | | | |
