What do you think about having to pay to use a shopping site?

I had heard about Bag, Borrow or Steal, the new "borrow" a designer handbag site, so I decided to check it out. I thought it was a neat concept for those that just have to stay up with the "Joneses" but also wanted to check out the outlet shop to see what was available. When you click, you have to become a member. I thought ok, no problem...let's sign up. I get to the next screen and see a membership form. It's $9.95 for a month or get a year for $5.00 a month, 3 months for 6.95 a month. So my question to you is, would you pay to take advantage of an online shop like this or would you pass on it? Remember this is a "borrow" a bag or accessory so you aren't even keeping the items unless you buy from the outlet. I think this is a site that I will pass on. I didn't think I would use it but wanted to take a peek out of curiousity. Oh well. How do you feel about this site? Are you shucking out the moolah to shop there and have site access?

Well with the price of gas ($4.35 regular now in my town - SO. Ca) people might pay the $5 a year to show instead of paying a ton more in gas to go shopping in town or to the next town. Might be the wave of the future.... Not to mention, there seems to be a fee to do everything. Except Mylot and I hope that doesn't change!

Basically, it's the same idea as Blockbuster online, and Netflix. I personally won't be doing it, just because I'm not into all the designer handbags and stuff, I think the ones at Walmart are way cuter, and most are under $15. It's a good idea, because there are a lot of women who feel they have to have the new designer bags, it's just not for me.

I have heard of it, but not paying a fee to have the right bag for an event. There are many bags that look real in this area for a fraction of the expensive bag. I did go to one fund raiser and everyone had really nice bags. People loved my bag and it was only $20.00. One of my friends told me my bag looked real. I asked where she purchased her bag and found out that it was the same place, but she spent $25 for hers. If I needed to borrow a bag for an event, then I would find a place that didn't charge me a fee just for looking at bags. I have never paid a looking fee and not starting now.

From what I'm discovering I couldn't afford to shop there anyway. I found a code for $25 off your first rental fee! Geesh, for $25 I can go buy a nice handbag. The leather shop at the outlet mall has $100 handbags for $20-29 all the time. I don't see how this site will survive either.

I saw another topic about this site the other day and I can't imagine borrowing something like that at all. No way I'd join them with a membership fee. I almost didn't start shopping at Sams Club because there was an annual fee. I get my money's worth there, but I still grumble when our fee comes up due again. I'm assuming the bags are another fee and the membership fee is just for being in the club? Nope. I wouldn't do it.

Yep, you got it. A fee to be a member of the club with access to the merchandise on the site and another fee to "borrow" the handbags and accessories. I got a code for $25 off first rental...you want it? haha

No, I would never do that. If you can't keep it, what's the point of paying for it? Besides, I've used the same bag for years.

I agree. To me it is just a big waste of money!

I would definitly pass on it. I am not going to pay a fee for the site to make even more money off of me. I am sure they must get a percentage of the sales on it, or they make a lot of money off of the product they sell, so why pay them more. Did you pay them or did you pass it up? When you are paying a fee like that, the item ends up costing you more than if you bought it somewhere else, especially if you don't use the site very much and don't buy very much from them. I just stick to buying from ebay and if there is a fee it is paid by the seller not the buyer.

Karen there are other borrow bags sites that do not charge a fee to be a member but to borrow you need to have a credit card, so in the event that the bag was not returned they can charge the card. I am not into designer bags and shoes, I buy very pretty things for a fraction of some of those bags... Crips I can not imagine buy a bag for 1500.00 when I can find the very same bag for 20.00.. so I would be one to pass it by quickly.

Me too! I'd rather have a couple of pairs of inexpensive shoes than go buy a pair for $300. Same with handbags. I just was curious about the site since I've heard so much about it this week.

I found a coupon code for $25 off your first rental. Sounds expensive and you are just borrowing the item. Definitely not my style!
