Paganism and Wicca fading

Singapore

I remember the days when Paganism and Wicca started out in my country (Singapore). The few of us who came across the religion in our search soon banded into groups and started learning together. The early period was innocent and happy, with the lot of us learning and experimenting with the little pagan materials we could get our hands on. Then egos and dark intentions surfaced, and the local practitioners started fighting for illusions of power and empty names. I ashamed to say that I was once part of that but I learned how stupid I was and started removing myself from all of it. Occasionally I would hear rumors and gossips but left it as that. Recently I poked around on the net and realized that the local communities has pretty much died out. Witchvox's listing on my country went from hundreds to a few handfuls. It was a sad sight, and my heart aches to know that my believes may fade into the darkness again. Perhaps it is might to be, or perhaps it is a sign for me to step up and do something. What are your views?

Paganism and Wicca is older than time. It has always been there and I believe a lot of people are still practicing it all over the world. Real practitioners or believers in them doesn't just die out. Some even see it is as a way of life.

Really? I thought otherwise. I have always thought that Wicca is ancient and predates Christianity and is associated with druids, Celts and the Saxons. I don't know what you meant that its only 60 years old. That seems so modern when it fact it isn't because those who practiced Wicca has been persecuted and burned through the stakes and trace its practices way back. I think you are referring only to its revival. I may be wrong and that there is an actual difference between those Wicca and what you mean as Wicca of today. One could find writings about Wicca that dates for centuries and even Gardner said in his book that Wicca prehistoric.

nope.. the actual religion of "wicca" is extremely young..formed in the 1950`s. while it is a sect of paganism.. it isnt one of the "old" religions alot of people think. so when you hear someone say something lke "im a fourth generation wiccan" theyre pretty much full of crap

Nope, CDparazo, Im afraid to tell you that you have gotten the wrong info for Wicca. It is a relatively new neopagan religion founded officially by Gerald Gardner. Yes, Wicca is well based on the thousands years old of practices but Wicca itself is new. Consider Mormonism and Roman Catholics. Both are Christianity-based but Mormonism is younger :) Blessed Be.

I don't think it is fading out but more that the ones who got into it for shock value are moving on to other things. Once they got their jollies out of it and it lost its fun they didn't have any reason to stick around. I was a witch long before I knew Wicca existed and I will be a witch for the remaining days of my life, same as those who are on this path in a genuine way.

I may not be the right person to answer this question but I will. I was raised to believe in God and Christ.. Pagan , Wicca, Wizardry & Witchery is not right nor a religion.. if we were ment to have any type of powers God would have gave them to us. My opinion only.

the gods help those who help themselves.. the "powers" were given and are just there for anyone who wishes to borrow them..

Just a quick response to this. Being a Christian Wiccan is an oxymoron. That would be like non dairy creamer or beef hot dogs made with chicken and pork. You are either a Wiccan or a Christian. You can't be both. DCMerkle

Sorry about that. I have no idea how that got there. I was commenting on another post that I was reading. I had finished with this one and had moved on. It must have been a glitch in Mylot. DCMerkle

Hey mate, I ain't sure why is it that you guys will fall out while practising Wicca... ... I am a Wicca Practitioner in Singapore and will still bein years to come. I just love this beautiful neopagan religion... Wicca is not ALWAYS about Magick and Spells. There are so, so many branches out of it... And I embrace wicca and gained the philosophical aspects. Magick ain't that important to me unless really needed (rarely)... I may have been a fresh practitioner, for 3 years, but I am old enough to realise what is true for me... Wicca, is not about Power Hunger and stuffs... If that is the case, then (sorry, no offense) that is not Wicca or Paganism (Druidry, etc...) AT ALL. It is more of 'Magick Practitioner', where one is inclined to perform Magick and spells for one's good or others bad, etc... ... If you truly believes in Wicca (If you are/were), never stop believing in it. DIscover the real marvel of this graceful belief and even if it only cost 1 person to believe in WIcca in Singapore, JUST DO IT!!! It can be solitary or a group, so it all depends on yourself :)

i don't think it's so much that it's fading, but that it's going more underground.a lot of sites get tired of people showing up and making snarky comments regarding religion. you might try paganspace,i'd heard that's a good community.

Blessings Sweetie, Perhaps it's that they are stepping away from broadcasting that they are Pagan. Perhaps, like you, they didn't want in the midst of the mayhem and stepped away from those around them. Then again, it isn't unheard of for one to do a complete about face and turn to Christianity. I do know what you mean about the dark intentions, the ego, the need for power for self indulgence and revenge. Fortunately, most of those that I know work for the best of All, not for themselves. I said most. I know a few that don't follow the Rede and that is their right. Anyhow, there are many that live in areas of the USA as I do that don't broadcast their beliefs. I live in Alabama, part of the Bible Belt. I don't hide what I am, but I also didn't put up a bill board. As long as a person is happy in thier beliefs and not harming others intentionally, I'm good. My sister in law and her husband are Christain. They are happy. They know I am not but don't judge me for it. They know my heart. My husband had trouble accepting it at first. But once I explained to him that I was still the same person, I just believed in working with the natural powers of the universe to bring about change for the benefit of all things, and showed him some of the similarities of his birth culture, Native American, he eased up and opened his eyes. He sometimes even wheres a pentacle. If asked if he is Pagan, he says yes. I have to admit, the first time that happened my jaw hit the floor, lol. What I am saying is perhaps many are still in the broom closet. And, as the others said, there are other sources besides Witchvox. Don't despair sweetie. We are still here and growing. Just some do so quietly. Love and light!
