how much space do you need for a house

i am a family of four members, we are plannign ot make a new house, we have decided have atleast 2,000 sq. ft of carpet area which would include separate rooms for my children, a guest room and other necessary comon space. is 2,000 sq. ft too small or good enough for a family of four

dude i think 2000 sqm is too big. :D we are also a fmaily of four and we have a 380sqm house and lot. thats enough.

I guess you misunderstood her discussion, It says 2000 square FOOT not in square meters..
For me the area is quite small if your planning ot have a single storey house. But if you plan to have a second floor, you can have the four rooms located there and one below together with the common areas of your house. Hope I could help.I design houses.Im a civil engineer.
