What is the purpose of salt in the sea?

Why did god made the sea salty? It's one of the wonders of nature.

I think the sea is salty not because it's meant to be, but because of all the stuff that is dissolved in it, such as certain mineral rocks.

"meant to be" never makes sense anyway. and what "stuff" dissolves in it? do you even know that the equation of salt is NaCl and that it doesn't come from "dissolving things"... if you even know what dissolving means.
