Swiss mathematician Lienhard euler developed the latin squares which is the first form of Sudoku. The dell magazine in the US 1970s began publishing Sudoku puzzles by using Eulers concept with a 9 to 9 grid. It was developed with a puzzle maker Howward garnes. In the 1980s the Japanese puzzzle giant published a version of it and it was an instant great hit in Japan. Nikoli named it Sudoku the current name .SU mans number and DOKU means a single place in Japanese. Satisfied?

I came to love that game only few days back.I don't have any idea about how it started but from the word itself....it came from Japan and the word sudoku means numbers must be single.

hey, that's weird, i mean the game is now almost three years old. i.e. its almost three years now since it took the world by storm. Anyways how mch do you play and how engrossed you become when you play that game?? And yes you are right about Sudoku being a genius japanese production. But i didnot know that the word sudoku has meaning too. That was quite a bit of knowledge for me.
