How to convince your parents to get you GTA4

I'm a parent that feels the same way as yours do and I hate to tell you, there is probably nothing you can say or do that will make them change their mind. From what I hear, the new Grand Theft Auto is the most violent of all, which I don't think is going to help your cause any.

Unfortunately, you probably don't have much of a chance. If they are strict on violent video games then you should probably start with something a lot less violent and try to work your way towards more violent games. I don't know how old you are, but if you try to sit them down and have a conversation with them about how you know the difference between games and real life. Maybe try to make a deal that you will stay out of trouble and if you don't you won't get any violent games at all. You just have to follow through. Make sure you don't get into arguments, just talk to them as much like an adult as possible. I doubt they will give in, but I think those are the best ways to try and bridge the gap. Communication and behavior will really help.

To be honest with you it "almost" impossible to convince them to let you play this game. but i recently read some studies that playing violent games does not really influence a person. i think the article was written by a top university in england. just google it and use it to your defense! good luck! and be safe;)

If your parents don't want you to play it, then it is not without good reason. I have the game, and if I had kids, I wouldn't let them play it. It is rated M, Mature for a reason.
BTW, it just isn't the violence in the game that is bad. Innuendo, drugs, language: all that stuff.

How old are you? I'm 25 with a young child and I do play video games. I have played GTA4. I hate to tell you this, but if my son was under 17, I wouldn't let him play it either. I'm not a super conservative, either. I just think there's certain things that he should wait to play when it comes to Mature rated games. I have read all the studies about video games and violence in my studies as a psychology student, and that isn't really what causes me to make that decision. I play violent video games and my husband does as well and we are definitely not violent people. Anyway, my advice? Stop asking, wait until you turn 17, and then buy the game. I know it's a cruel world. Just think of this...I didn't even have a game system until I was 18. You still have plenty of time.
