Hypnotherapy, do you believe? |
|
I've just started on a course to become a clinical hypnotherapist and was just wondering what people thought about it.
Have you ever been hypnotised? How did it feel?
Has anyone heard any horror stories about hypnosis?
Men are now using such skills as hypnosis and NLP to help attract women. Is this ethical?

1. rmuxagirl (6611) | 4 years ago | I have never been hypnotised and I haven't heard of anyone who have been. I'm not sure if I agree with it, but then again I don't know much about it to have an honest knowledgable opinion.

pondlife (336) | 4 years ago | Well that is an honest opinion and it's good to hear that you're not afraid of something that you know nothing about which a lot of people are. Some people jump to conclusions about stuff like that.

2. miajane (318) | 4 years ago | hypnosis is just putting someone into a highly suggestive state. it can be abused, but i've never heard horror stories. i don't know about men using hypnosis to attract women, but there have been stranger things. i don't think of it as a 'trick' the way magicians use it. its great that you're getting into it. its a budding field, as most branches and areas of psychology are.

pondlife (336) | 4 years ago | Totally agree, it's a fascination. I've just come back from my 3rd w/e and it was great. I'm completely drained as we're dealing with our own issues too. I'm sure that I'm really growing as a person just by doing this course.

3. dreams_2007 (221) | 4 years ago | I am also learning hypnotherapy. I went into trance many times. It was a great experience. There r many misconcepts linked with hypnotherapy. Some r .....people will any thing that is told by the therapist is a wrong concept..........The person is fully in charge of himself or herself, nobody can control them through hypnosis, hypnotherapy is not a magic too........ Its a scientific method to treat mainly pain and stress but now a days its uses r endless.

pondlife (336) | 4 years ago | That's cool, I think that's one of the best descriptions of a hypnotic trance state that I've heard! That's one of our course questions so I'll make a note of it:-)

4. unisis (1524) | 4 years ago | I have heard about how hypnotism can help from quitting smoking to losing weight & even to get hyper-active kids into control. I am personally quite interested to try it to see if it could help me stop my strees & weight loss, really! On the other hand, I have seen on TV how some hynotism demos, shows and get people to go on stage, make them do silly things and have everyone bursting into laughter, but when the person being hypnotised wakes up, have absolutely not idea what is happened with him! As much as I would like to try it out, I do have some reservations about it too. I volunteered once as a subject and it was not effective with me. I think you have to have a level of trust in your therapist that I am unwilling to give. I have had more success with therapies where I have more active participation.

pondlife (336) | 3 years ago | Hey Unisis,
You've made a great point here "I have had more success with therapies where I have more active participation". The hypnotherapy approach that I use is Ericksonian which is utilization based which means that it's very much a two way process.
I suggest that you try it again with a hypnotherapist which you have a good rapport with.
Cheers, p.

5. Tanya8 (1452) | 4 years ago | I believe that there is some validity to hypnotherapy.
I'm curious though: how would a man use hypnosis to attract women? Is it possible to put someone in a hypnotic state without her noticing or without her consent?
| |
| |
|
|
pondlife (336) | 4 years ago | There's a lot to hypnosis that isn't about being in a completely detached trance state. Sales men use hypnotic skills every day and they probably don't even realise it. Next time you want some one to do something you want ask them some questions first that you know they will answer 'yes' to. Then ask them what you want and they're more likely to do it... that's covert hypnosis...

7. dnatureofdtrain (3935) | 3 years ago | Yes, I have been hypnotised by both good and bad, some made me well, others made me very ill... my hypnotherapist and I are still trying to work on removing some deep suggestions we are not sure quite where they came from, but are strong, and holding me back from doing most of what I want to do... So far I like the progress. the last thing suggested to me was to write more. Well I wrote myself into 57 dollars on mylot so that is good laughs. - DNatureofDTrain:) .

dnatureofdtrain (3935) | 3 years ago | Well, It was going good. But then I sudden out of the blue lost touch with my hypnotherapist... but he has been going through homelessness on and off, so he maybe ended up moving again, and is in a place with no internet access. .. I hope he is alright. However, Since then I have really seen my writing and communication open up, and It has helped motivate me to futher improvements so changes are happening but at a slow pace. So I am glad that my friend did help me.. I wish I had no lost touch with him as I would have love to recommend him to others.
take care, - DNatureofDTrain

pondlife (336) | 3 years ago | Sorry to hear that about your hypnotherapist! He sounds like a real character though and you must've had very interesting sessions.
I've had my first session in a room I'd hired in my local town today and it felt very different from places I've worked before. Definately out of my comfort zone but I feel that I've taken the first step to taking my practice to the next level.
Hope you find another therapist - or at least a friend to talk to.
Good luck,
p.

8. MySpot (1670) | 3 years ago | ((I've just started on a course to become a clinical hypnotherapist and was just wondering what people thought about it. )) That's great. I think that it boils down to mind over matter and if you believe it will work, it will or vice versa. I've heard of expecting mothers using hypnosis to block pain from childbirth. I have seen it done successfully and I was totally impressed! I'd consider learning hypnotherapy; ) Good Luck!
((Have you ever been hypnotised? How did it feel?)) My hubby and I were hypnotized to quit smoking. It felt relaxing during the hypnosis. We did stop smoking for two weeks but as soon as my M-I-L fell ill, we let the stress get to us and started smoking again: (
((Has anyone heard any horror stories about hypnosis?Men are now using such skills as hypnosis and NLP to help attract women. Is this ethical?)) No to both. Definitely not ethical!!!

pondlife (336) | 3 years ago | Hey MySpot, I've not been around here for a very long time so sorry for the belated response!
I think you're right on all counts. I've learnt a lot on my course and I'm now ready to go out there and practice. The hardest part is doing all the marketing and selling myself.
Looking forward to the future tho - I definately have more options now that I have more strings to my bow.:)
Thanks for posting. Good luck.

9. TheSpy (3351) | 3 years ago | Hi Pondlife:
During my training as a spy I was hypnotised. They did it until I could pretend I wasn't hypnotised so if I was caught I would not tell the enemy anything.

10. oscarbartoni (1713) | 3 years ago | I have been using hypnosis for over 40 years (no I am not certified nor do I have any licence) practicing hypnosis. when I was in the army I used to teach (after hour) men how to hypnotize . In fact I taught them how to hypnotize people even if they could not speak the persons language. That involved hypnotizing a person that could be used as a translator, hypnotizing them to be able to hypnotize the prisoner. After I got out of service I went to college and in my psychology class I was interested in learning more about hypnosis but I would up teaching the class (and the instructor) about hypnosis. A couple of interesting cases that I worked on, one was a woman who had multiple personalities. and had been going to a psychiatrist (for this problem) for 8 years and he had only prescribed medications for her. Within 6 weeks I had gotten rid of these "alter egos" for her (or rather she had gotten rid of them). The doctor wrote me a letter and asked how I had done this abut I knew that he was really wanting to know why I had done this ( getting rid of one of his "cash cows"). The other interesting case was while I was in the army and one of the guys was going to go over to VietNam and was deadly afraid of snakes. If you mentioned snake to him, he would literally climb the walls o get away from any snake that might be around. With only one session I had him handling a harmless snake (only a 4 foot bull snake). Yes a person can be influenced by the power of suggestion. This is a mild form of hypnosis. Advertisements make a lot of money by using power of suggestion.
