he was wearing a dog mask while stealing, he stole $5,450 from the store in order to feed his two dogs, five cats, five turtles, two snakes and an acquarium of tropical fishes

It's the first time I've heard of that. He may have good intent though but the ends doesn't always justify the means. He may lack the resources to buy the pet foods but still, it's stealing.

i don't know what to say. one thing is sure, that's not a great way to feed his pets. it different with stealing to feed his children.
