wheel bearing on a 95 f-250 4wd

does anyone know what the round spring on myy 95 f-250 4wd is for , Iwas pulling the brake rotors off the front and when I pulled the the rotor and hub there was a round spring laying in the small space between the inner wheel bearing and the seal what is it for
