listening compared to hearing

Hi friends, Is listening important than hearing. I mean sometimes you have people go on and on with whatever the natter be. You listen to the moral of the story and just keep hearing to what he/she is saying. So is it right or wrong.

I never thought about it before, but I think sometimes people just need to talk. It doesn't matter how many times you've heard the same story. They just need someone to talk to.
