I know this discussion is going to be controvertial and Iam going to get a lot of people not agreeing with me.When the Iraqy war was first starting we were sharing a home with another person, her son and she was soon to give birth to her second child. The paternal grandmother of her son came to visit over night. My roomate asked her about some male cousins. Her ex mother-in-law told her that both of them in their early twenties are volunterrily to the war.My roomate flipped out and told her that their parents better tell them that they can't go.Her ex mother-in-law tried told her that the boys were adults and that they could not be told what to do by their parents. Then my friend started going on about how they should tell them that if they go they will taken out of their wills! And that going to war they were only asking to die.Her ex mother-in-law told her,"Well,Iam going to be sleeping on the couch tonight and if God has deceided it is time for me to die then I'll have a heartattack, just die in my sleep, whatever." She replied,"Really?""No,there has to be a reason for you dying.".The elderly woman shoock her head and I said,"Yep the reason is God said so.".Her ex mother-in-law agreed.I told her some recent things that had happened.A soldier came home from the war for Thanksgiving and was walking down the street and got shot by a drive by.Another one came home after 6 months in Iraq and died in a car wreck. The third account is that the soldier came home, his service was over and that very day he was seeing that someone was being attacked and he interveined.Saved that person's life, but was stabbed himself. Then there was the man who had also completed his duty in Iraq and went to stay with his siter. The next day he got a job and an apartment he was to move in to the next day.He went to the store at midnight and bought a few things that he needed and as he walked out the door he was shot and killed. There is a reason for everything and those that do die in the war do not die in vein.At the begining of the war I understood why they went.To protect their country, family, friends as well as other citizens. But,now they got Sadam Hussain. The other terrorist cannot be found,so why are we still there? What do you think?

i think they all need to be brought home. i don't think they sure have ever been there in the first place. the usa has a full time job taking care of the people here if they'd just do that & stay out of everyone else's buisness.

ask bush, see if you can get a truthful answer out of him for a change.

I feel out of my depth responding here but one struck me whwn I reached your last phrase ....why are WE still there?
I assume by 'we' you mean USA?
I am in Italy. Italians are there (and elsewhere in the world too. But WE are at home leading our normal lives.
War? That wssn't what it started as surely? Wasn't it a 'peace mission'?
If these souls out there were indeed fighting a war, fighting to defend something then maybe I could understannd. As things are at the moment I understand nothing.
It is hardly given coverage by the media here any more. Other things are more important.
I think that whoever started this is completely out of his depth by now. Just as I am in responding here but I said so at the beginning whereas I seem to remember that the person who started 'the war' as saying it was 'in and out' real quick.

Yes,Iam speaking of the USA.It was started as a sort of a peace mission to find Sadam Hussain and Osama Binladin,to stop terrorism. The trrorist had taken over Iraq, especially Sadam. They found Sadam,he went to trial and was executed.I totally understood that and I supprted and still support the troops.I just don't understand why they are still there.

Your room mate should keep his or her trap shut. The young man volunteered, they were not drafted. There is no right to tell this elderly lady to tell the sons to come home or be disinherited. That elderly lady had sense that it is not up to her when she will go, that it is when God decides.
As for you telling that lady about the soldiers who were brutally murdered when that came home. If you had told me, I would have suspected that someone, or a gang was going after war veterans and murdering them and I would have called the army investigation team and let them know.
So is someone going around targeting soldiers who returned from Iraq because they oppose the war?

Don't hold your breath!
