How important do you think it is for children and teens to have music education?
This could mean anything from music education in school, along with band, chorus, etc. Or It could mean music education in the home or even private lessons from a music teacher.
This question is just my curiosity, music is a big part of my life, and growing up I didn't feel like there was enough music education. I know these days I hear more and more about the importance of it, so I wanted to get some opinions from different people; parents, teachers, education majors, etc.
Every opinion is much valued here, I am not looking for people who agree with me necessarily, I want to hear all sides! :) And I will comment on any responses I get!

For me, music is a good hobbies i could suggest to the kids. If you think that you have a talent in music, you have to lift up this talent. I know a music teacher whose children are all good in music. But in academic lessons they are slow so the mother nourish their talent in music because she knows that her children are good musicians. When they are in high school they are not known in academic popularity but they are known in musical popularity. They knows all kinds of music instruments. And even you don't have talent in music, you can learn it specially singing, there are some do not know how to sing even to hit a note but there are many voice culture lessons.
